Although the powertrain features a 2.5-litre inline-four engine operating on the Atkinson cycle, it is paired with a familiar Lexus-Toyota hybrid system. The resulting blend produces a potent 215 horsepower, exclusively powering the front wheels.
The sixth-generation ES, introduced for the 2019 model year, received a mid-cycle refresh in 2021, which featured a transition from a nickel-metal hydride to a more compact lithium-ion battery pack. By integrating an advanced cooling system, the battery pack could be relocated from the trunk to beneath the rear seats, liberating additional cargo space while also optimizing the vehicle’s front-to-rear weight distribution.

The luxurious brand has hinted at an LF-ZL concept that is reportedly a preview of a mass-produced electric vehicle scheduled to arrive in 2026, and has shared with Green Car Reports that an 800-volt EV architecture will be employed in certain upcoming models.
