Despite the introduction of new US auto tariffs, Hyundai has no intention of raising car prices anytime soon. Hyundai Motor Company and Kia are accelerating electric vehicle (EV) production in the US as they pivot towards larger, more popular battery-electric SUV models. The newly introduced IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6 serve as crucial components in Hyundai’s strategic expansion plans.

Hyundai and Kia are hedging their bets on electric SUVs in the US market.

Hyundai marked a significant achievement last month by exceeding 17 million vehicle sales in the US since its market entry in 1986, a testament to the company’s enduring success and growth.

The achievement underscores Hyundai’s prominent position in the US automotive industry, solidifying its reputation as a major player and paving the way for future triumphs.

Despite the Trump administration’s elimination of federal incentives for electric vehicles, Hyundai is pressing ahead. Following the initial rollout of nine IONIQ 9 models to customers last month, Hyundai’s pioneering three-row electric SUV has garnered praise for its exceptional range, spacious interior, and stunning aesthetic appeal.

At a starting price of just over $60,500, this three-row electric SUV is remarkably affordable. In its inaugural month on the market, Hyundai purchased 302 IONIQ 5 models in May, with production set to increase significantly at its Georgia facility.

The Hyundai IONIQ 9 is built on the cutting-edge Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) platform, alongside the highly popular IONIQ 5.

Hyundai’s new electric vehicle manufacturing facility has a production capacity of up to 300,000 units annually. Notwithstanding, output could potentially be escalated to approximately 500,000 if desired.

Despite a 12% decline in June, IONIQ 5 still saw a rise in sales through the first six months of 2022, with a total of 3,898 units sold. Within just five months of its launch in the US market, Hyundai has successfully sold over 16,000 units of the IONIQ 5, marking a notable 6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Hyundai has upgraded its 2025 IONIQ 5, boasting increased range of up to 318 miles, refined styling both inside and out, and the addition of a standard NACS port, allowing for seamless charging at Tesla Supercharger stations.

Hyundai’s newest addition to its IONIQ lineup, the IONIQ 9, now features an integrated Navigation and Charging System (NACS) charging port. The starting price for the rear-wheel drive 2026 IONIQ 5 is $60,555, including destination charges, and offers an estimated range of up to 335 miles. Hyundai’s three-row electric SUV offers an impressive amount of interior space, surpassing that of a Ford Explorer, with a maximum capacity of up to 2,472 litres (87 cubic feet).

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 qualify for the $7,500 electric vehicle (EV) tax credit, still available. Kia is pinning hopes on its three-row electric SUV, the EV9, to propel growth in the US market.

South Korean automaker Kia reportedly purchased just 37 units of its EV9 electric vehicle model last month, likely due to the 2025 model year selling out early. The Kia EV9 has officially landed in US dealerships nationwide.

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 has achieved another milestone by slashing its lease cost to an affordable $179 per month, cementing its position as a budget-friendly electric vehicle option in the market.

Although the 2026 IONIQ 9 has become more accessible, its surprising affordability comes with a substantial $13,000 lease incentive currently available. Listed initially from just $419 a month.

Hyundai is offering significant financial benefits with the purchase of any new 2026 IONIQ 9 or 2025 IONIQ 5, including a complimentary ChargePoint House Flex Degree 2 charger.
