Volkswagen’s urban mobility subsidiary, MOIA, has achieved a significant milestone by launching its latest electric vehicle, the ID. Buzz AD, Volkswagen’s first fully autonomous production vehicle, has been designed from the ground up with mobility service providers in mind.
This revolutionary vehicle isn’t just any ordinary autonomous transportation; it’s a game-changer. MOIA is bundling the ID. Suppliers of private and non-private transportation services gain a comprehensive suite of instruments with Buzz AD. This comprehensive suite of solutions encompasses cutting-edge self-driving technology, robust fleet management software, personalized passenger assistance, and comprehensive operator training. Enabling cities and companies to deploy autonomous vehicle fleets quickly, reliably, and at large scale.
MOIA’s autonomous ID is set to debut initially. By 2026, Buzz will have established a presence in Hamburg before expanding its operations to scale across Europe and the United States.

At the very core of the vehicle lies Mobileye’s cutting-edge autonomous driving technology, seamlessly integrated into its ID. The buzz has been licensed to meet stringent automotive security standards. MOIA enhances its offerings by integrating a cutting-edge Autonomous Driving Mobility-as-a-Service (AD MaaS) platform, now coupling self-driving vehicles with intelligent fleet management capabilities that seamlessly respond to emergencies while harmonizing with travel apps?
The vehicle is equipped with an array of advanced sensors, comprising 27 discrete units, as well as 13 high-resolution cameras, 9 LiDAR sensors, and 5 radar systems, allowing for a comprehensive 360-degree visual field of the surrounding highway environment. The AI software program ensures seamless operation by making instant decisions, meeting all requirements for Level 4 autonomy. The system incorporates real-time remote surveillance and expert support to address unusual outlying situations.
Operators are not expected to resolve issues independently. MOIA provides comprehensive operator enablement, encompassing simulation, training, deployment, and real-time monitoring support to help operators effectively manage their fleets. Operators can effectively serve a diverse range of markets, from urban to suburban and rural areas.
