The Mazda EZ-60, a forthcoming all-electric mid-size SUV, has surfaced in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) database, shedding light on key specifications ahead of its expected late August debut. Developed jointly by Changan, the EZ-60 is poised to offer a dual-choice solution, comprising pure electric (EV) and extended-range electric (EREV) variants, both built on the EPA platform.

The Arata Idea’s manufacturing mannequin upholds its bold design cues, boasting a cutting-edge front fascia featuring a discreetly integrated grille, angular LED headlamps, and a striking, high-tech LED light bar that underscores the grille’s fluid shape. The dynamic entrance bumper amplifies its sporty appeal, while the sleek, full-width LED taillight array at the rear features debossed “MAZDA” typography, exuding refined sophistication. The ‘EV’ emblem distinguishes the electric vehicle model, while the range-extender variant subtly deviates from this design language.

Measuring 4,850mm in length, 1,935mm wide, and 1,620mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,902mm, the EZ-60 boasts ample space for up to five passengers, firmly positioning it within the mid-size SUV category. Customers have the option to choose between 19-inch and 21-inch alloy wheels, as well as personalize their vehicle with distinct exterior mirror designs, adjustable rear wipers, and a range of single-tone paint finishes.

Within the EZ-60’s streamlined interior, a minimalist yet futuristic ambiance prevails, with a commanding 26.45-inch 5K floating touchscreen at its core, seamlessly integrating infotainment and vehicle control functions. The dashboard boasts a sleek dual-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, column-mounted gear selector, and discreet button-style door releases, exuding a refined, stylish aesthetic.

Passengers are pampered from the onset by zero-gravity entrance seats clad in luxurious upholstery, featuring advanced amenities including air circulation, heated surfaces, soothing massage functions, and an integrated audio system embedded within the headrests. The central console features wireless charging and smart storage compartments beneath its surface, effectively increasing usable space within the cabin.

The pure electric model is propelled by a single 190 kilowatt (255 horsepower) motor, coupled with a reliable lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CALB. While exact figures remain unknown, the established framework ensures a robust pursuit of high performance.

For those seeking prolonged range without incurring nervousness, the EREV variant pairs a 1.5-liter gasoline range extender producing 72 kW with a powerful 190 kW electric motor, augmented by a substantial 31.73 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery. This unique setup enables a remarkable 160 km (99 miles) of pure electric propulsion ahead of the combustion engine’s role as a generator, prompting seamless and efficient energy delivery.

The EZ-60 navigates a highly competitive segment, rivaling models such as the Changan Eulora S07 and Avatr 07 in terms of performance. The pricing details remain under wraps for now, but its proposed positioning implies a competitive stance in the market, likely targeting a range of 150,000-300,000 yuan, equivalent to approximately $20,820-$41,640 USD.

Mazda has secured over 20,000 pre-orders for its SUV model in China. Patrons can safeguard their EZ-60 by submitting a refundable ¥10 (approximately $1.40 USD) deposit through Changan Mazda’s official website or at authorized dealerships. As the deposit’s value grows daily until supply is exhausted, the final total is subtracted from the purchase price – a shrewd motivator to prompt timely bookings.
