Xpeng Motors unveiled a tantalizing teaser for its forthcoming electric coupe, codenamed E29. The Chinese automaker Xpeng is poised to debut its latest vehicle by the end of 2025, marking a significant departure from its current sedan range with a bold new design that prioritizes high-performance aesthetics.
Rafik Ferrag designed the E29, having previously worked on the pioneering P7. In 2018, he became part of the Xpeng team, subsequently sharing an Instagram post that gave a sneak peek at the car’s sleek silhouette. The official specifications remain conservative, yet leaks from the teaser image and previous spy shots suggest the vehicle’s design will feature a sleek fastback silhouette, an integrated full-width taillight with a reimagined lighting signature, discreet flush door handles, frameless aspect mirrors, and a retractable rear spoiler. While sharing some aesthetic parallels with the 2024 P7+, the E29’s entrance and rear styling are distinct, incorporating unique design elements aimed at bolstering its aerodynamic prowess.
The details surrounding the matter remain undisclosed until further announcement is made. Despite this, spy shots reveal a prominent central touchscreen, a three-spoke steering wheel featuring rounded controls, and a potential purple leather upholstery option that stands out. Predicted to operate on Xpeng’s latest in-car software, Xmart OS 2.0, this version features advanced voice control capabilities and an innovative augmented reality head-up display.
The mannequin could also potentially serve as a vision-based advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), possibly leveraging Xpeng’s cutting-edge Turing AI processor for enhanced performance. Unlike many of its peers’ latest designs that utilize lidar-based technologies, the E29 stands out by exclusively employing camera systems to perceive and sense its surroundings. The next-generation model is expected to feature a hatchback-inspired trunk design, potentially elevating its versatility and functionality.
While official details on the powertrain remain under wraps, insiders suggest that the forthcoming E29 will exclusively feature an all-electric setup, marking a milestone for Xpeng’s innovative “Kunpeng” electric vehicle platform, which is poised to debut with this model. While some industry experts hypothesize that this technology could eventually support range-extending electric motors, there is currently no official word on a forthcoming model incorporating this capability. The current K7P variant delivers up to 348 kilowatts of power in its dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations, featuring a WLTP range of approximately 702 kilometers. The E29 is forecasted to surpass or at least parallel these estimates.
E29 prototype units, camouflaged for testing purposes, have recently been spotted conducting on-street evaluations. XPeng’s CEO, He Xiaopeng, was recently spotted taking a spin in one of their vehicles. The corporation filed a trademark application in February for the identifier “P7 Extremely,” pending evaluation and potentially tied to this model.
The E29 is expected to make its debut in the third quarter of 2025, potentially at the Guangzhou Auto Show.
