Nio consolidates Onvo and Firefly in major restructure as the company hits 700,000th delivery

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker Nio has undertaken a comprehensive internal restructuring by consolidating its two subsidiaries, Onvo and Firefly, under its main brand umbrella. As announced in a company-wide memo effective May 9, organizational adjustments will impact our product development, customer support, and marketing departments, signaling a strategic move to streamline operations and minimize inefficiencies.

In line with the announcement, Nio’s Product Design & Improvement (PD&D) Cluster will set up a brand new first-tier division devoted to Onvo product design and growth, reporting on to Nio CEO William Li. The newly formed division will absorb responsibilities from Onvo’s specialized team, combining product know-how, mission management, design capabilities, and automotive engineering expertise. Therefore, a newly established Onvo Product Line Division will be set up.

Nio’s Consumer Expertise & Service (UE) Cluster will set up a first-tier Onvo Consumer Service Division. Shen Fei, the division head, will brief NIO’s co-founder and President, Qin Lihong, on his findings. The newly formed division will consolidate the responsibilities of Onvo’s previous departments, including planning and operations, regional sales strategies, regional sales operations, regional sales management, and marketing.

The Onvo’s Advertising, Marketing, and Event Planning divisions, along with their regional sales companies, will be integrated into the UE Cluster and continue to operate as secondary departments under the existing organizational structure. The Firefly division may also be positioned below the PD&D Cluster, though additional particulars on its restructuring haven’t but been disclosed.

The company’s reorganisation follows its announcement of delivering 23,900 automobiles in April, a 53% year-on-year increase and a 58.9% jump from the previous month.

The majority of these vehicles, a total of 19,269, are from the main Nio model. In contrast, Onvo accounted for a significantly lower number, with just 4,400 units sold.

CEO William Li marked a milestone by introducing the supply of Nio’s 700,000th car at the company’s Wuhan New Vitality Analysis Institute individually.

As competition intensifies in the electric vehicle (EV) market, Nio’s efforts to reorganize its multi-brand operations aim to enhance efficiency and drive success. The corporation had started integrating services for Onvo and Firefly, much like granting joint access to Nio Home spaces.
