Tesla’s Bait-and-Switch on Cybertruck Owners: Autopilot Feature Delayed, Not Included.

Tesla bait-and-switch: Cybertruck owners won’t get Autosteer feature they paid for
SHARE

Tesla confirms latest disappointment: Cybertruck owners will no longer receive promised Autosteer feature.

For an alternative, you’ll receive 12 months of supervised full self-driving.

Tesla’s initial deliveries of the Cybertruck in late 2023 were hampered by an unfinished software program, notably the Superior Driver Assistance System’s features such as “Supervised (FSD) Full Self-Driving”, which came bundled with every early Cybertruck purchase at no additional cost.

Tesla has taken nearly a year to begin rolling out Full Self-Driving capability on its Cybertruck.

Following Tesla’s discontinuation of the fully-loaded Cybertruck Base Collection, customers were left with a new option: purchasing the $8,000 Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD) package or opting for the standard Autopilot bundle, which was previously bundled into the purchase price.

Autopilot’s two primary features are Site Visitors Aware Cruise Control and Autosteer. While the Primary is straightforward, Tesla designates Autosteer as its name for active lane-keeping functionality.

Most Tesla owners opt out of purchasing the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package.

As of 16 months since Tesla started delivering the Cybertruck, the company remains unable to equip the electric pickup with Autosteer technology.

Tesla notifies Cybertruck owners that they won’t enable Autopilot features unless they purchase Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD).

As we continue to refine our Autopilot capabilities, our core competencies are likely to evolve. Accordingly, “

Tesla offers a complimentary, 12-month Full Self-Driving (FSD) trial to all Cybertruck owners as an exclusive perk.

Tesla informs Cybertruck owners that the Autosteer feature will not be shipped with their vehicles.

Your Tesla Cybertruck, with Vehicle Identification Number _______, qualifies you for a complimentary one-year trial of our Full Self-Driving Capability in Supervised mode.

As we continue to elevate our Autopilot proficiency, our fundamental building blocks are poised for transformation. Consequently, we invite you to experience firsthand the cutting-edge capabilities of our latest Full Self-Driving (Supervised) model, and become enveloped by its innovative spirit.

As a valued pioneer in the world of electric mobility, we’re delighted to offer you a complimentary one-year subscription to Full Self-Driving (Supervised), a cutting-edge technology that will revolutionize your driving experience.

To qualify for the one-year trial, subscribers must sign up for Full Self-Driving (Supervised) by June 6, 2025, using the link below. You may cancel your subscription at any time, retaining access to the 1-year trial period.

Electrek’s Take

You possibly can’t try this. When customers bought a $80,000 to $100,000 Cybertruck from Tesla’s non-Basis lineup, they gained access to Autopilot and Autosteer features at no additional cost.

Tesla reveals surprise twist: After customers paid for the feature, company announces that they must also buy an $8,000 add-on to unlock it.

It seems Tesla’s consistent claims about imminent autonomous shipping are a recurring red flag, underscoring the company’s tendency to exaggerate its capabilities.

The automaker might deem its “bait and switch” arrangement insignificant since it’s offsetting the discrepancy with a complimentary 12-month FSD package worth $1,200, equivalent to the monthly subscription fee. Tesla hopes that by the time the free trial concludes, Full Self-Driving Capability (FSD) may have undergone significant enhancements, potentially allowing for autonomous operation without human oversight.

Musk’s annual predictions have been a consistent gamble, one that he has taken for the past six years, only to consistently fall short of the mark.

As a result of the transparent instances of disgruntled Cybertruck owners emerging, this will undoubtedly prove attention-grabbing due to its stark illustration of Tesla’s missteps. Despite everything, can they muster enough strength to fight back? As fervent enthusiasts of the electric-vehicle pioneer, Cybertruck owners likely constitute the most ardent Tesla devotees among its loyal customer base today, thus rendering them particularly unlikely to resist or question Elon Musk’s vision for the company.

Let’s see how they react.
