The BYD Tang L flagship SUV gained regulatory approval from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on January 10, featuring electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) options. The official unveiling is anticipated to occur on January 17th.
Previous to this, BYD unveiled the teaser images and a design rendering of the Tang L. Both versions – electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) – are built upon robust foundations: the EV leverages BYD’s cutting-edge e-Platform 3.0, while the PHEV benefits from the company’s advanced DM 5.0 PHEV expertise.

The dimensions of the standard trim specifications include a length of 5040 mm, a width of 1996 mm, and a height of 1760 mm, resting on a 2950 mm wheelbase. What is the combined height of the peak and the drone docking station?
The electric vehicle’s curb weight varies significantly, ranging from 2,675 kilograms to 2,967 kilograms. The vehicle’s maximum towing capacity is 2,000 kilograms.
Two pure electric trims have been conclusively demonstrated to excel in specific applications.
- A 500-kilowatt perpetual magnet synchronous motor, model TZ210XYR, designed and manufactured by BYD.
- The 230 kW (308 hp) entrance AC asynchronous motor, model YS230XYD, and the 580 kW (778 hp) rear permanent magnet synchronous motor, model TZ210XYW, both crafted by BYD.
The company also offers batteries from BYD as an alternative option.
The plug-in hybrid variants boast a 115 kW (154 horsepower) 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, paired with either a single electric motor or dual motors, delivering maximum outputs of 200 kW (268 horsepower) and 400 kW (536 horsepower), correspondingly. The pure electric range options are 135 kilometers, 150 kilometers, and 165 kilometers.
The panoramic sunroof is a standard feature that accompanies an optional front bumper, multiple color choices for the front trim, rear bumper trim, luggage rack, roof lidar, rear camera, and 20- or 21-inch wheel designs, as well as wheel arches.
According to exclusive spy shots, the vehicle’s interior features a prominent, hovering central command console, a distinctive D-profile steering wheel, and a dashboard adorned with a variety of gauges.
