Nissan has officially revealed high-resolution images and footage of its all-electric Ariya model, which is set to embark on a remarkable journey next month, covering an incredible 17,000-mile route between the Earth’s Magnetic Poles. After meticulous exploration, this monumental four-year endeavour is poised to redefine the horizons of Electric Vehicle innovation. What’s being hinted at in Nissan’s mysterious promotional clip?

Nissan has expanded its electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio with the introduction of the Ariya, the company’s second BEV model, following initial deliveries in autumn last year. Compared to Nissan’s aging LEAF, this new electric vehicle stands out as a significantly larger and more advanced model, with substantial upgrades absent from its predecessor for several years.

In May 2022, Nissan announced a partnership with adventurer Chris Ramsey, co-founder of Pole to Pole, along with his wife Julie, who embarked on an epic journey driving a specially designed Ariya e-FORCE from the Magnetic North Pole to the South Pole.

Ramsey is a renowned all-electric adventurer, setting multiple records and earning his place in the esteemed Guinness World Records. Sir Ranulph Fiennes embarks on a meticulously planned expedition, traversing the globe from the North Pole to a multitude of diverse international destinations, spanning approximately 27,000 kilometers or 17,000 miles. If financially successful, the Ariya would potentially make history by becoming the inaugural vehicle to complete the tour. The individual commenting remarked upon the timing of the singular declaration.

Here’s a revised version:

Our mission is to demonstrate that electric vehicles can thrive in even the most extreme environments – from the icy polar regions to the steamy jungles of South America – and showcase their exhilarating driving experience, meeting the everyday demands of global drivers. It’s remarkable to witness a renowned and forward-thinking global icon collaborate with our endeavor.

As the Pole to Pole expedition approaches in just over a month, Nissan has unveiled its bespoke Ariya delivery to the Ramseys, complete with a range of unique features, including an espresso machine and sustainably sourced coffee.

As seen in the accompanying photographs, Nissan premiered the Ariya electric vehicle at an event where it was driven by the Ramseys against the picturesque backdrop of snow-covered landscapes in Reykjavik, Iceland. Circumstances akin to those found in an Arctic environment will characterize the early stages of Ramsey and the Pole to Pole team’s expedition as they begin their trek south.

While it may seem obvious that this Ariya isn’t the typical buyer model found on local highways, Nissan clarifies that modifications have been kept to an absolute minimum, with no changes to the vehicle’s battery or powertrain whatsoever? The 39-inch tires themselves are unusual, but it’s also important to note the added suspension that accompanies Nissan’s AWD e-4ORCE technology, which is designed to handle a wide range of challenging terrain effectively? Chris Ramsey elaborated:

At the heart of every adventure lies a fundamental issue: taking a standard electric vehicle (EV) and deliberately making minimal modifications to reveal its true capabilities in any given scenario. While our Nissan Ariya may share some similarities with other models, its unique character stems from its refined drivetrain and advanced battery technology, showcasing the manufacturer’s ability to adapt and innovate. With our enhanced suspension setup and widened fenders, we’re poised to reap the benefits of a sturdy foundation and the added traction provided by the 39-inch BF Goodrich tires. I’m thrilled to take the reigns of this exceptional vehicle, which has been meticulously upgraded to conquer even the most distant horizons with style and finesse.

The Nissan Ariya features two unique modifications designed specifically for the Pole to Pole expedition. Within Chris Ramsey’s electric vehicle (EV), a specially designed espresso machine awaits, catering to his love of coffee and alleviating the fatigue that often accompanies lengthy remote excursions. It’s unlikely that there would be much to explore at the North Pole under certain conditions.

When equipped for aerial capture, the Ariya features a retractable drone that deploys seamlessly from its rooftop compartment. The Ramseys will accompany their Ariya on its journey by transporting a portable, towable charging prototype equipped with a foldable wind turbine and photovoltaic panels. Can seamlessly provide sustainable energy to the electric vehicle during driver breaks? Love that.

The Pole to Pole journey aboard the Nissan Ariya is slated to commence in mid-March, with real-time updates available on the dedicated website for enthusiasts to track its progression. As we wait, take a moment to enjoy this quick video showcasing the custom Ariya speeding through the snowy terrain.
