Toyota finally unveils its new electric SUV: Meet the Urban Cruiser EV
SHARE

Toyota is finally set to launch yet another electric SUV. The Toyota City Cruiser Electric Vehicle made its debut on Thursday, saying hello to the world. View these primary photographs carefully.

What’s behind the quirky name? The Toyota City Cruiser EV is a compact electric vehicle that debuted at the 2020 Tokyo Motor Show. With its boxy design and short length, it looks like a futuristic toy car on wheels – hence the ‘Cruiser’ moniker. But don’t let its playful appearance fool you: this mini-electric has some big ambitions.

The Toyota City Cruiser marks the automaker’s second electric SUV venture, building on the success of its inaugural offering, the bZ4X. The electric mannequin’s development builds upon the legacy of its gas-powered predecessor, which ceased production in 2014.

With its cutting-edge design and dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform, the City Cruiser EV stands out as a unique offering distinct from other Toyota models. Toyota claims its “unique strengths” are a hallmark of excellence, allowing it to maintain a competitive advantage over peers.

One notable feature is the innovative “hammerhead” front-end design that stands out. The sleek design features smooth, flowing curves that seamlessly integrate the entrance and rear sections, creating a harmonious visual language throughout the vehicle’s entirety? Toyota says its “City Tech” styling gives the vehicle a strong, imposing appearance from all angles.

Standing at an impressive 4,285mm in length, 1,800mm wide, and 1,640mm tall, the electric SUV boasts a stature slightly larger than that of its popular sibling, the Yaris Cross. The longer wheelbase of 2,700 mm is a significant advantage, increasing by 140 mm compared to the Yaris Cross.

Within the interior of the electric SUV, drivers are treated to a pair of high-definition displays: a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch driver’s display, both equipped with seamless smartphone integration capabilities.

The brand’s latest platform shares the same foundation as Suzuki’s e-Vitara electric SUV, which made its debut last month. As a major milestone in their strategic partnership, two prominent Japanese automakers are poised to unveil a pioneering electric vehicle.

Toyota’s upcoming Land Cruiser electric vehicle (EV) is expected to offer two battery pack options: a 49 kWh unit and a more substantial 61 kWh variant. While the previous engine might produce a mere 142 horsepower (106 kW), its more modern counterpart yields a substantial 172 horsepower (128 kW). Within the all-wheel-drive (AWD) model, a larger battery yields 181 horsepower (135 kilowatts).

The all-new Suzuki AWD system, called ALLGRIP-e, features innovative technologies like Downhill Help Management and Path Mode, ensuring improved traction in various conditions. Meanwhile, the front-wheel drive model boasts a Snow Mode that simplifies navigating snowy roads with ease.
