Audi has issued a recall for certain models due to concerns over faulty batteries that could potentially cause fires.
The recall affects certain 2022 and 2023 Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid crossovers as well as 2022 Audi A7 plug-in hybrid hatchbacks. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some of these autonomous vehicles may be prone to overheating, posing a potential fire hazard.
While the root cause of the defect remains under investigation, the regulatory body noted that preliminary findings suggest possible manufacturing irregularities may have contributed to the overheating issue.
2022 Audi A7
Audi estimates that a mere fraction of its vehicles globally, primarily outside of the US market, are affected by this defect. Audi has informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it is not aware of any accidents, crashes, or fires linked to this issue in the United States.
The treatment for this condition is expected to be available by the second quarter of 2025, according to Audi’s projections. Sellers will offer this software program at no cost to set up when it becomes available.
Certain electric vehicles feature online diagnostic tools, which enable manufacturers like Audi to identify malfunctioning modules and recommend that owners refrain from charging their vehicles until the battery pack can be replaced. Without comprehensive data on auto transmissions, homeowners are advised to forgo charging until a definitive solution is developed.
Audi intends to dispatch preliminary notification letters in January. By December 24, 2025, a primary notification will be sent, followed by an immediate secondary alert once a final treatment solution has been developed. Can quickly spiral into complex and expensive crises for car manufacturers. Following attempted software programme updates, Jaguar last month elected to repurchase nearly 3,000 I-Pace crossovers due to a battery issue that posed a fire risk. General Motors initiated a massive recall to replace numerous defective Chevrolet Bolt EV battery packs.
