The legend returns after nearly four years of absence. Ford’s new Capri Electric vehicle is set to debut in key markets across Europe. Following the successful launch of the Ford Electric Explorer, the brand-new Ford Capri is the company’s second electric vehicle (EV), built on the robust and flexible Volkswagen MEB platform.

Ford revives the legendary Capri with an all-electric redesign, debuting the revamped model in July. In just under four months, the eagerly anticipated electric sports activities crossover will start arriving at European dealerships.

The first electric Capris have rolled out of Ford’s Cologne Electric Vehicle Centre in Germany and are bound for customers.

Ford introduced its latest Capri iteration, boasting that it will “bring excitement to the world of electric vehicles.” This all-electric take on a beloved classic revives the iconic model’s spirit. Approximately 200,000 potential customers have designed their own Capri fashion collections on Ford’s website.

With a resounding 24%, the top pick among colour enthusiasts is Vivid Yellow, as many opt for the modern take on the classic Capri’s Daytona Yellow, defying tradition in favour of this vibrant hue.

Based on Ford, over 50% selected the Capri Premium mannequin, which positive aspects Dynamic LED headlights, a 10-speaker B&O sound system, 20-inch alloy wheels, and extra.

The Capri EV’s impressive range of over 400 miles (627 km) on the WLTP cycle allows it to travel from Cologne to London non-stop.

Ford’s European electric vehicle chief, Jon Williams, declared, “Our new all-electric Capri is the evolutionary next step for a sports car that has been synonymous with speed and agility for generations.”

The Capri’s revival has finally lived up to expectations, according to Williams, who added, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to witness a new era embody the style and panache that made Capri a true icon.”

The Ford Mustang Mach-E, an all-electric sports car, comes in two trim levels: the Capri and the Capri Premium. Equipped with a 77 kWh battery, the rear-wheel-drive Capri EV boasts an impressive range of up to 390 miles (627 km) on European roads.

The Premium model boasts an enhanced 79 kWh battery and all-wheel-drive propulsion, enabling a WLTP-estimated range of up to 368 miles (592 km).

All vehicles now come equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), offering top-notch driving support. The system comprises 12 ultrasonic sensors, five cameras, and three radar systems.

Within this model, drivers will find a versatile 14.6-inch infotainment display that can be adjusted to suit their preferences, accompanied by seamless integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for enhanced connectivity. The vehicle also features a wraparound cockpit and contoured sport seats, creating a racing-inspired ambiance.

The Ford Capri EV’s value varies greatly depending on the trim level. The base model, which is the most affordable, starts at around $40,000. However, as you move up the trim levels, prices can easily exceed $60,000.

For instance, the mid-range “Sport” trim adds features like a panoramic sunroof and premium sound system, bumping the price tag to around $50,000.

Measuring 4,634 millimeters in length, 2,063 millimeters in width, and 1,626 millimeters tall, the new Ford Capri EV bears a striking resemblance to the Volkswagen ID.5, with its dimensions of 4,599 millimeters in length, 1,852 millimeters in width, and 1,603 millimeters tall. From this angle, it seems to bear a resemblance to the Polestar 2.

Priced from $48,800 (€44,950) in Germany, the innovative Capri EV starts with a sticker close to that of the electric Explorer, which costs around $52,700 (€48,500). Meanwhile, the premium model’s price tag hovers around $52,300 (approximately €48,650).

The revitalization of ancient cultural practices has gained widespread interest in recent years, with many people seeking to reconnect with their heritage and traditional ways of life. The rumoured revival of the iconic Capri has sparked excitement among car enthusiasts. However, would we really buy an electric version of this classic?
