Nissan has unveiled an innovative electric concept inspired by its iconic sports car, the legendary Nissan Skyline GT-R, captivating enthusiasts worldwide with its futuristic design and technological prowess. The Japanese automaker has been teasing the GT-R R32 EV prototype in a new video released on their platform.

In 1969, Nissan introduced its first-generation Skyline, a result of the merger between Nissan and Prince Motor Company, the original producer of the Skyline, which initially debuted as a sedan that year.

In 1970, Nissan launched its iconic GT-R model, boasting enhanced power and handling capabilities, as well as being the company’s first ever two-door production vehicle. Although the Skyline underwent numerous facelifts and upgrades throughout its history, it wasn’t until 1989 that Nissan introduced the iconic R32 Skyline GT-R.

As we speak, the Skyline is widely recognized as the enduring precursor to Nissan’s iconic GT-R sports car.

As the calendar jumps forward by 34 years, Nissan finds itself poised to embark on an electrifying new era. To accelerate electric vehicle production, the manufacturer has recently intensified its efforts, including optimizing powertrain assembly lines and unveiling a comprehensive plan to introduce 19 new all-electric models by 2030.

Fashion trends that mirror a sleek and high-performance vehicle like the Nissan Skyline GT-R’s distinctive design? Nissan has recently released a teaser video hinting at the development of an electric prototype based on the iconic R32 Skyline GT-R, captioned: “Nissan to challenge the production of an EV prototype of the R32 Skyline GT-R.”

As a response to the desire sparked by a newly hired engineer who joined Nissan’s ranks solely due to their awe for the iconic GT-R, the company launched a competitive challenge. “I’m eager to design a more exhilarating vehicle by integrating cutting-edge electrification technology into my dream car.”

Electrek’s Take

As pioneers in electric expertise with the launch of the LEAF in 2010, the Japanese automaker initially took the lead but has since struggled to keep pace with the competition.

Nissan spent over a decade developing its second all-electric model, the Nissan Ariya SUV, finally launching it into production last year.
