Hyundai recalls over 226K vehicles due to damaged circuit boards

The number of hybrids and plug-in hybrids sold in the U.S. has been steadily increasing, with many major manufacturers now offering these fuel-efficient options. Over potentially damaged circuit boards that could impact the functionality of rearview digital cameras and hinder their ability to display a clear image.

The recall affects 2021 and 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid crossovers, as well as 2022 Elantra Hybrid sedans, with an additional notice issued for 2022 Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrids and non-hybrid variants of both the Santa Fe and Elantra models.

What’s New in the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid?

The rearview cameras in some vehicles may have been manufactured with subpar soldering on their printed circuit boards, potentially leading to noncompliance with requirements set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Rearview cameras are now mandatory under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111, addressing rear visibility and posing a significant safety risk that warrants a recall.

To address this shortcoming, sellers are willing to provide this service at no additional expense. Hyundai anticipates sending property owner notification letters in January. 19, 2025. Homeowners seeking assistance can reach out to the manufacturer’s dedicated customer service team by dialing 1-855-371-9460. The manufacturer’s reference number for this recall is 271, issued by Hyundai.

2021 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid

This recall impacts . The mid-size crossover underwent a comprehensive redesign for its 2024 model year, boasting a dramatically new exterior aesthetic. The hybrid model delivered impressive results, boasting a 2-mpg enhancement over its predecessor’s EPA-estimated 34 mpg combined fuel economy. Although Hyundai has yet to officially confirm its plans for the Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid’s return, it previously offered an electric range of 30 miles.

The all-new Elantra Hybrid debuted for the 2021 model year as part of the latest generation of Hyundai’s popular compact sedan lineup. Although the product has undergone some styling updates and experienced price fluctuations since then, it continues to be available for purchase in its original form, with no changes to its underlying design, as is typical of a carryover model like this one?
