Uncovered by chance in China are spy photos of Nio’s upcoming third model, the Firefly. The photographs currently released offer a glimpse into the side profile of Nio’s upcoming all-electric compact vehicle. Previous images had only revealed the entrance and rear, marking the first occasion where the overall design of the prototype could be fully appreciated.
The latest batch of behind-the-scenes images from the upcoming film Firefly has surfaced online, giving fans a glimpse into the production process. The automaker has announced that its latest innovation will make a formal debut at the upcoming Nio Day event in Guangzhou, scheduled for December 21st.
Rumored to boast a bold design, the automobile features an unmistakable entrance and rear aesthetic, diverging from the contemporary styles of Nio and Onvo. The miniature scale prototype appears to mirror the dimensions and design of the Mini Cooper and Volkswagen ID.3. A close examination of the leaked image reveals a hatchback body style reminiscent of the five-door Mini Cooper.
The Mini Cooper is a compact, five-door hatchback measuring 4,036mm in length, 1,744mm in width, and 1,454mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,495mm.
The Volkswagen ID.3 is a compact electric vehicle, measuring 4,261mm in length, 1,887mm in width, and 1,568mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,765mm.
Rumors about unconfirmed images of Firefly’s internal surveillance capabilities have surfaced online. The sleek dashboard boasts a streamlined design, featuring a circular steering wheel and an elegantly suspended full-color LCD instrument cluster, seamlessly integrated with a central display screen. Notably, this console-free design eliminates the traditional secondary console beneath the central display, facilitating seamless communication between drivers and passengers via direct connectivity. Is the design actually coming to a close?
NIO’s CEO, William Li, reiterated in a recent update that the initial Firefly model is expected to hit the market by mid-2025. The new electric vehicle (EV) model will join forces with Nio to create a shared global home gross sales network, catering to the same high-end customer base that Nio typically targets, much like the partnership between Mini and BMW. Li has confirmed that the initial investment could range from approximately 100,000 to 200,000 yuan, equivalent to $14,000 to $27,600 USD.
