Porsche will proceed longer than deliberate, together with doubtlessly including hybrid variants to some deliberate all-electric fashions, CFO Lutz Meschke mentioned throughout a Q&A session with Automotive Information and different media on the automaker’s third-quarter monetary outcomes.

Prior to this announcement, Porsche had revealed its ambition to see electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids account for 50% of its global revenue by 2025. As part of its efforts to phase out internal combustion engines, Porsche plans to discontinue its combustion-powered Macan SUV and 718 Boxster and Cayman sportscars starting in 2026, aiming to achieve 80% electric vehicle sales globally by 2030.

Citing no specific timeline, Porsche reaffirmed its commitment to developing internal-combustion engine variants for its Cayenne SUV and Panamera sedan, with plans to expand this effort beyond what was initially anticipated.

“Menschke stated that his company is currently exploring the potential of deliberately introducing the first fully electric vehicles.” We’re currently refining our conceptual approach. What’s clear is that we’re committed to sticking with the combustion engine for a lot longer.

Porsche has largely committed itself to an approach of harmoniously integrating its gasoline-powered and electric vehicles. Among the 2025 Porsche Macan range, the electric variant occupies display space alongside its gasoline-powered counterpart until the latter’s planned discontinuation in 2026. While the next-gen Cayenne may also be electric, it’s likely to coexist with the current third-generation model for a transitional period. During a previous interview in the current year, Michael Steiner, Porsche’s head of analysis and development, confirmed plans to discontinue the Porsche Panamera model.

While developing new combustion-engine versions of supposedly electric designs may seem like a significant step backward, Meschke’s comments do align with sentiments expressed earlier in the year. Porsche revealed in July that its electric vehicle (EV) transition is underway, with plans to sustain combustion engine production due to sluggish demand from customers.
