Spotted: Second-gen Wuling Hongguang Mini EV takes shape with 3-door and 5-door variants.

Second-generation Wuling Hongguang Mini EV spied testing in both 3 and 5 door versions
SHARE

The second-generation Wuling Hongguang Mini EV’s three-door variant has been spotted undergoing testing with remarkably minimal camouflage constraints. Additionally, there are also shots of the five-door variant. With this initial look, we’re given a significant insight into the interior’s design, which deviates significantly from its predecessor in the first-generation vehicle.

While the entrance and rear of both the three-door and five-door variants of the second-generation Wuling Hongguang Mini EV remain identical, a notable distinction emerges on the sides. The three-door version boasts significantly larger rear door openings, designed to facilitate easier entry and exit from the back seats. A large rear window provides an expansive view of the surrounding landscape, allowing passengers to take in the scenery as they travel.

The all-new three-door second-generation Wuling Hongguang Mini EV boasts a sleek, aerodynamic design that maximizes efficiency and minimizes wind resistance. Its compact dimensions make it an ideal companion for city dwellers, while its spacious interior accommodates up to five passengers with ease. With its advanced battery technology, the Hongguang Mini EV offers a range of approximately 250 kilometers on a single charge, making it perfect for daily commutes or weekend getaways.

According to the MIIT declaration information released several months ago, it is well established that both the three-door and five-door versions boast exterior measurements of 3,256mm in length, 1,510mm in width, and 1,578mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,190mm. Standing at an impressive size, this vehicle surpasses its primary-era counterparts, boasting measurements of 2920mm in length, 1493mm in width, and 1621mm in height, with a substantial wheelbase of 1940mm.

Signaling a subtle shift from exterior to interior, the process of transformation unfolds gradually, driven by evolutionary forces. While it is widely known that interior footage of the five-door model exists, there are no visual records available for the three-door variant. While the automobile’s primary focus remains utilitarian, its evolution is marked by the introduction of a central infotainment display, complementing the original digital instrument cluster. It appears that, based on available information gleaned from a glance through a window, the fabric’s quality seems unlikely to surpass previous standards. Within the compact space between the two front seats, the drive selector remains nestled, while three rotary controls govern various functions.

As evident in the accompanying images, a notable limitation is apparent in terms of rear legroom when sitting behind the vehicle.

The second-generation vehicle is equipped with a TZ155XZ230 electric motor, boasting a maximum output of 30 kilowatts. The maximum velocity is limited to a speed of 100 km/h. While ranges and battery sizes remain unclear, they appear to be in line with those of the inaugural electric vehicle, which comes in three variants: 120 km, 170 km, and 215 km.

The company’s highly anticipated product launch is expected to occur within the next few months, potentially even before the end of the year?

The original Mini Electric has become a phenomenal bestseller, exceeding one million units sold just a year after its introduction in 2020. Notwithstanding, last year’s annual revenues declined substantially, dropping from $404,823 in 2022 to $237,863 in 2023. As competition intensifies in the market, the newly introduced five-door Mini EV could potentially provide the boost the brand needs.

The SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture boasts remarkable sales figures, with the automobile emerging as one of its best-selling products. SAIC and General Motors have increasingly relied on their joint venture to drive their overall revenue in China.
