As BMW approaches the global debut of its eagerly anticipated all-electric 5 Series, the automaker has unveiled a series of camouflage-clad images showcasing the forthcoming i5 eDrive40 during its final stages of summer testing. BMW also revealed select design and efficiency metrics that i5 enthusiasts can expect from the upcoming electric vehicle.

Since its introduction in 1972, the 5 Series has remained a cornerstone of BMW’s product lineup, solidifying its position as the company’s second-best-selling model after the 3 Series. BMW launched its electric endeavors with the pioneering i3, leveraging this now-discontinued model to propel innovative successors, such as the i4 and forthcoming i7 sedan, which promise enhanced performance.

Six years after teasing a concept for an i5, BMW enthusiasts have been left wondering what a production-ready, all-electric version of the 5 Series might look like and what kind of performance it would deliver? When the all-electric i5 debuts globally, shoppers will soon have their queries resolved with the simultaneous introduction of a plug-in hybrid and traditional combustion-powered variant.

Before its official unveiling, BMW has provided additional glimpses of the camouflaged i5 in action, showcasing refinements to its suspension dynamics and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) as testing continues. Test it out.

The BMW i5 will debut this October, boasting enhanced autonomous driving capabilities via its cutting-edge Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The highly anticipated debut of the BMW i5 sedan is nearing its final stages at the manufacturer’s proving grounds located just outside Miramas, southern France, as per the company’s indications. Over the course of the past year, the all-electric 5 series has successfully navigated a diverse range of environments, including snowy landscapes in Sweden, extreme temperatures, urban and rural road networks, as well as various test tracks.

According to BMW, the top-of-the-line i5 M60 xDrive will boast Adaptive Suspension Expertise as standard, utilizing electronically controlled dampers to blend the comfort of a luxury sedan (like the 7 Series) with the agility of a sports car (like the 3 Series). The optional feature enhances the performance capabilities of the i5 eDrive40.

BMW’s ninth-generation Vertical Dynamic Administration technology is poised to make its debut on the electric 5-series. Per the discharge:

The expertise relies on a novel, extensively interconnected management paradigm, which leverages readily available input parameters – such as wheel speeds, steering angles, yaw rates, and accelerations – to determine optimal damping forces. The system does not employ mathematical formulations to calculate the necessary damping forces, instead relying on physical calculations based on the current driving scenario. This optimizes precise physical dynamics and suspension responsiveness across all driving situations.

Ultimately, BMW asserts that it has strengthened its ADAS capabilities on the i5 by integrating cutting-edge technology featuring high-resolution cameras, advanced radar sensors, and sophisticated software algorithms. Here is the rewritten text:

The package includes a comprehensive Driving Assistance Expert bundle, boasting Freeway Assistant technology, which enables hands-free driving up to 85 mph, now further enhanced by Active Lane Change capabilities while continuously monitoring the driver’s attention.

When approaching a lane change opportunity, the advanced system will suggest the move, prompting the driver to engage the process by glancing in their side mirror. The driving force can swiftly adjust its flip signal to initiate a safe lane change.

The Intel Core i5 is set to make its global debut in the coming weeks, ahead of production commencing this summer and deliveries slated for October. Keep tuned.
