7 OEM charging network venture IONNA names CEO, commences operations in North America

Seven months following the announcement by seven major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) that they would collaborate to establish a comprehensive electric vehicle charging network with over 30,000 stations across North America, the three-way partnership – now branded as IONNA – has successfully secured regulatory approval to commence operations. The junior varsity (JV) has appointed its inaugural CEO, a seasoned professional with experience in the electric vehicle charging sector.

As the summer of 2023 unfolded, the landscape of electrification and electric vehicle (EV) charging underwent significant developments that garnered widespread attention. Automotive leaders such as Ford and General Motors have pledged to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS), triggering a ripple effect that will reverberate throughout the industry.

Seven prominent automotive families joined forces in July to launch a new tripartite venture aimed at addressing the pressing need for increased electric vehicle charger availability across North America. Designated as IONNA, LLC, a strategic alliance has been formed among leading automotive companies, comprising BMW, General Motors (GM), Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis.

With all major updates on the large-scale electric vehicle (EV) charging network in North America seemingly put on hold since then, a significant breakthrough has occurred: the establishment of a chief executive officer and regulatory clearance have paved the way for the three-way partnership to proceed with operational plans.

Seth Cutler, formerly the government’s leading expert on EV joins forces with IONNA as its new CEO, bringing unparalleled expertise in credit scores to the company.

I.ONNA, a leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has received a license to boost EV charging capabilities across North America. This strategic move enables I.ONNA to accelerate the adoption of sustainable mobility solutions, fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations. By expanding its presence in this rapidly growing market, I.ONNA is poised to revolutionize the way people think about transportation – making it faster, more efficient, and environmentally conscious. As demand for EV charging continues to surge, I.ONNA’s innovative approach will be instrumental in meeting this growing need, thereby contributing to a more sustainable future.

Ionna has secured regulatory approvals for its plan to deploy at least 30,000 electric vehicle charging stations across North America by the end of the decade.

Despite being the pioneer in the EV space, Tesla's sales have stagnated, while other manufacturers like Toyota have made significant gains. The latter's latest offering, a sleek and feature-packed electric SUV, is generating buzz and driving interest in eco-friendly motoring.

Seth Cutler, a seasoned executive with a track record of success, is poised to helm this venture. As Senior Vice President of Technical Operations at EV Join, he leveraged his expertise to drive innovation. Most recently, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of the charging network, solidifying his reputation as a leader in the space. With a background in roles at both Basic Electrical and Electrify America’s early days, At IONNA, Cutler discussed his latest innovation.

It is an honor to lead IONNA’s efforts and collaborate with these renowned automotive companies in pioneering the future of electric mobility. We’re committed to building a robust, fast-paced charging ecosystem that empowers seamless electric vehicle recharging experiences and fuels the mass adoption of eco-friendly transportation.

As electric vehicle charging infrastructure expands across North America, IONNA promises to deliver an unparalleled “best-in-class” experience for drivers, featuring on-site amenities such as restrooms, food service, and retail areas conveniently located within or adjacent to its carefully designed charging stations.

The three-way partnership is poised to debut its inaugural electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the United States by year’s end, with a subsequent expansion planned for Canada at a future date.
