Enbridge, a leading Canadian energy company, has announced its move forward with the development of an 815-megawatt solar project called Sequoia in Texas. When completed, this solar farm will join the ranks as one of the biggest in North America. The mission’s price tag is a substantial $1.1 billion.

Enbridge’s Sequoia, round 150 miles west of Dallas, has already landed long-term energy buy agreements (PPAs) with AT&T and Toyota, making certain most of its output is offered for years to come back. The energy infrastructure company announced a significant transaction in its quarterly report released on Friday.

The Sequoia solar power project may feature a dual-phased development, with energy generation expected to commence in 2025 and 2026 respectively. Enbridge reports that it has proactively reduced risks by securing necessary tools and procurement contracts in advance. Restrictions on permits and buy orders have been further tightened.

Toyota’s partnership with Enbridge’s Texas solar project is a significant step towards achieving its ambitious sustainability goals, as the automaker strives to reach net zero emissions by 2035 and source 45% of its energy from renewable sources by 2026, while remaining committed to its “diverse powertrain strategy”.
