The Geely Geome Xingyuan, a subcompact electric vehicle, blends design elements from both hatchbacks and SUVs, offering a unique blend of practicality and style. This innovative fusion is designed for household use, boasting a robust product range with generous storage space and a practical driving experience that rivals the BYD Seagull, which we reviewed previously.
Prior to being discontinued, the neutral-branded model known as Geometry, or Geome, was rebranded as part of the Geely portfolio due to lackluster sales performance. The all-new Xingyuan EV reinvigorates Geome’s appeal with its modernised design and innovative features, catering to a fresh wave of buyers seeking cutting-edge electric vehicles. Since its launch in early October, approximately 11,500 products have already been successfully delivered. Upon arriving at the dealership, I noticed that every Xingyuan in the parking area had its windscreen displaying a “sold” sticker.
The Xingyuan boasts a welcoming aesthetic, courtesy of its rounded entrance styling and curvaceous drop-shaped headlights that collectively infuse the vehicle with a playful charm. The car’s design prioritizes usability and simplicity over intricate details. Available in seven ice cream-inspired hues, this vehicle stretches 41.35 feet long, 18.05 feet wide, and 15.7 feet tall, boasting a 26.5-foot wheelbase. With a floor clearance paying tribute to small SUVs, the Xingyuan features an easily manageable height perfect for navigating city parking spaces with ease. The proportions closely align with those of the BYD Dolphin, showcasing subtle differences in scale, silhouette, and breadth to instill a similar feeling of spaciousness and coziness. The Xingyuan’s rear roof styling echoes that of the Good #1, with a striking resemblance in their design aesthetic.
The vehicle’s 16-inch wheels stand out, providing robust support and coming equipped with 205/60 tyres that boast generous width and thickness to enhance durability against minor curb scrapes. The semi-recessed door handles harmonize seamlessly with the vehicle’s sleek design to create a more streamlined and aerodynamic profile. While the car’s design exudes a cheerful charm, its appeal may be diminished for those preferring a more subdued and mature aesthetic.
The interior design showcases meticulous planning for effortless usability. The entranceways boast expansive openings, designed for effortless passage. Built on Geely’s cutting-edge platform for electric vehicles, the Xingyuan features a rear-wheel drive design and employs a C2P construction methodology, whereby the battery is seamlessly integrated into the chassis to maximize interior space and stability.
The steering wheel features intuitive, built-in buttons that provide seamless access to essential controls. The seating features a cushioned design incorporating a fixed headrest that blends harmoniously with the overall seat aesthetic, albeit without adjustable settings. The cabin provides a comfortable driving experience, thanks to the harmonious balance between seat height and headroom, ensuring unobstructed visibility while preserving ample headspace.
The spacious interior design features flat flooring and extended seating areas, offering ample legroom, especially in the rear compartment. At first glance, the dashboard’s harmonious blend of style and functionality is evident, featuring a crystal-clear digital instrument cluster providing essential driving information and a secondary display on the passenger side that enhances the overall ambiance. Inside, high-quality highlights envelop a suspended touchscreen and advanced LCD instrument panel, driven by Meizu’s innovative Flyme Auto OS, featuring sports modes, intelligent AI voice assistance, and seamless smartphone integration capabilities. Geely has crafted the cabin’s interior design with a focus on incorporating soft-touch materials that foster collaboration among passengers, thereby boosting comfort and durability.
The automotive features a diverse array of storage solutions, including a capacious glove compartment with a drawer-like configuration capable of holding multiple items, as well as a wireless charging dock equipped with a cooling fan to prevent overheating and ensure reliable power transfer. Numerous in-cabin charging stations are strategically placed, allowing passengers to safely stow their devices. The cabin also boasts a thoughtful design element in its deep-hearted console, complemented by cleverly placed door pockets that provide ample storage opportunities. Storage space is comprised of a 10-litre glove compartment, a 375-litre trunk that expands to 1,320 litres when the rear seats are folded down, and a 70-litre front boot.
Built upon Geely’s dedicated electric vehicle platform, the Xingyuan features a rear-wheel drive configuration, with its compact electric powertrain unit situated directly over the rear axle for optimized performance and handling. This setup enables a harmonious driving experience, delivering a sense of stability and responsiveness that fosters confidence behind the wheel.
With its diminutive dimensions and finely calibrated suspension, the Xingyuan navigates metropolitan thoroughfares with a surprising degree of agility, effortlessly absorbing minor road imperfections. Despite its lack of intent to be sporty, the vehicle’s large tyres and stable posture still provide an assured grip when navigating winding roads. While driving simultaneously, the advanced electric powertrain enables effortless and uninterrupted acceleration, making it perfectly suited for urban daily commutes.
The platform’s innovative C2P battery integration offers an unparalleled low entry threshold, making it one of several standout features. Without any obtrusive overhead tunnel, the cabin’s floor plan is remarkably flat, while the expansive rear doorway design further amplifies accessibility, allowing passengers to enter and exit with ease, unencumbered by feelings of confinement. This feature specifically caters to households and customers who value simplicity and convenience in their user experience.
The Xingyuan offers a choice between two electric motors supplied by GLB Energy, delivering either a 58 kW or 85 kW output: the former propels the vehicle at a prime velocity of 125 km/h, while the latter reaches 135 km/h. Powered by CATL batteries, the vehicle is available with two capacity options, offering a CLTC range of either 310 kilometers or 410 kilometers.
Geely’s Geome Xingyuan combines compact proportions, practical storage capacity, and an adaptable interior configuration to deliver a user-centric urban driving experience? Its unique design and thoughtful interior features make it particularly well-suited for urban residents or small families seeking a versatile electric vehicle. While some may find the absence of a telescoping steering column and rear wiper at odds with their preferences, Xingyuan’s thoughtful approach to design and driving dynamics renders it an intriguing alternative to the market-leading BYD Seagull.
