Jaguar tests all-electric I-Pace in extreme cold, gets a launch date

As Jaguar readies to unveil its inaugural electric vehicle, the I-Pace, a series of rigorous tests have been conducted in “the most challenging terrain and temperatures” to gauge its performance.

The British automotive manufacturer premiered I-PACE prototypes at Jaguar Land Rover’s Arctic testing centre in Arjeplog, Sweden, to evaluate the electric SUV’s performance in subzero temperatures ranging from -40°F.

The debut announcement highlighted the groundbreaking capability of the vehicle, which can accelerate from zero to 80% charge in approximately 45 minutes via DC fast charging, even under sub-zero temperature conditions, backed by a reliable 100kW power source.

“I am thrilled to introduce our latest creation, a masterpiece that embodies the essence of British luxury and performance,” Ian Hoban, Jaguar Automobile Line Director, declared.

“Not only will the I-PACE prove affordable for our customers to sustain their daily lives, but it will also deliver exceptional performance and pinpoint accuracy across various scenarios and extreme climates.” Paired with the esteemed reputation of our renowned PACE brand, this innovative SUV embodies unparalleled electrical efficiency.

The corporation has officially stated that i-Tempo homeowners will have access to battery pre-conditioning through their mobile app, allowing them to utilize this feature even in cold weather conditions.

At the press launch, they stated

While connected to power, drivers will be able to configure the car’s battery and cabin temperature before a trip without depleting the battery’s range. By pre-conditioning your vehicle, you can enjoy optimal performance, efficiency, and luxury regardless of extreme temperature conditions. The onboard Jaguar InControl system enables you to set preferred charging intervals and pre-conditioning schedules.2Without the need to physically be in their car, owners can control and monitor their Jaguar via a user-friendly interface.

Tesla recently rolled out a universal feature update across its entire fleet through a software-only upgrade just a few weeks ago.

Jaguar presents an exclusive preview experience within its movie collection, inviting prospective customers to explore the innovative features of the I-PACE test drive program.

In the final month, they extended an invitation to a young woman from California to join them on a scenic 200-mile drive along the coast.

Here is the rewritten text:

Johan Westerlund, a Swedish potential customer, was invited to join the discussion, bringing with him concerns about using I-PACE in harsh Arctic environments.

Jaguar has officially confirmed that the I-PACE will make its global debut in a live broadcast on March 1, 2018 at 1:00PM ET/19:00 CET, followed by its public premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, 2018.

Jaguar has been ambiguous about its claims regarding the I-Pace’s fast-charging capabilities.

Without needing to specify the exact cost threshold, they focus on how quickly the car can charge using a 100 kW charger instead.

While 100 kW charging may not be harmful, it’s also true that many had hoped for a solution capable of rivaling Tesla’s offerings by leveraging the growing network of 150+ kW fast-charging stations now being rolled out.

The details surrounding our March launch are still subject to clarification.

The production automotive is expected to mirror its prototype predecessors, with updated specifications and pricing details still pending. Initial reports suggest a price tag of approximately $76,000, based on early reservations.
