As tensions escalate over electric vehicle (EV) values in China, Volkswagen is set to debut its latest flagship electric sedan. Volkswagen’s Chinese joint venture, FAW-Volkswagen, officially launched pre-orders for the ID.7 Vizzion in China, starting at 237,700 yuan (approximately $33,200), for its electric sedan.

Volkswagen confirms pre-order success for ID.7 Vizzion in China, sales to start soon.Electrek’s Take

At the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show in April, Volkswagen revealed the ID.7 Vizzion, a revolutionary new electric sedan that marks the brand’s entry into the world of EVs.

The ID.4 Vizzion premiered at Volkswagen’s “ID Night” following the ID.3. The ID. Subsequent is a brand-new electric sedan model from SAIC-VW.

Volkswagen maintains two joint ventures (JVs) in China, partnering with both SAIC Motor and FAW Group. When Volkswagen introduces a new model, such as the ID.7, the process of designing and producing it is typically handled internally by the company itself. While SAIC supplies the ID.4 X and ID.6 X models, FAW offers the ID.4 Crozz and ID.6 Crozz variants.

The electric sedan’s design closely mirrors Volkswagen’s ID.7, with subtle tweaks applied to create a distinct look.

Following the launch of pre-orders for its ID.7 model in Europe in August, Volkswagen aims to strengthen its position in the continent’s largest electric vehicle market.

Volkswagen confirms pre-order success for ID.7 Vizzion in China, sales to start soon.

Volkswagen launched pre-ordering for its ID.7 Vizzion model on Wednesday, offering a starting price of 237,700 yuan (approximately $32,200) for the innovative electric vehicle.

According to estimates, the value was only slightly higher than the native medium’s projections of $25,000 to $30,000.

The Volkswagen-SAIC ID.5, a subsequent electric sedan, will debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in September.

The ID.7 Vizzion stands at an impressive 4,956 millimeters (195 inches) in length, 1,862 millimeters (73 inches) in width, and 1,537 millimeters (60.5 inches) in height, making it a substantial electric sedan. The Tesla Model X (not Mannequin X) measures 198 inches long by 79 inches wide by 66 inches tall.

The electric sedan is available in both single- and dual-motor configurations. The rear-wheel-drive single-motor model is equipped with an 84.8 kWh nickel cobalt manganese battery, which enables a range of up to 642 kilometres (399 miles) when measured by the Chinese laboratory test cycle. Twin-motor options offer a range of approximately 570 kilometers (354 miles), with varying capabilities.

Within its interior, the vehicle showcases cutting-edge technology, featuring a 15-inch 2K floating display screen and an augmented reality head-up display. The device boasts a Hardman Kardon premium sound system, equipped with 16 high-quality audio channels.

Volkswagen’s flagship sedan offerings feature assisted driving capabilities, including an innovative interactive lane-change system, boasting a 3.0 iteration.

Electrek’s Take

Volkswagen’s most crucial market is China, where it has a significant presence. The automaker derives nearly 50% of its profits from that region.

Despite initial complacency, China’s swift shift towards electric vehicles left Volkswagen unprepared? Following a decade-long dominance in the market since the 1990s, BYD surpassed Volkswagen to become the top seller with its best-performing model earlier this year?

Although electric vehicle deliveries rose 4% in China through September, Volkswagen’s Chief Financial Officer Arno Antilz cautioned that the company might forfeit further market share until new models from XPeng hit the market?

Volkswagen invested $700 million to acquire a nearly 5% stake in XPeng in July. The inaugural fashion collaborations from this strategic alliance are expected to debut in 2026.
