The brand will soon introduce a plug-in hybrid variant, leveraging technology from its partner, Mitsubishi.

Although Inexperienced Automobile Stories found no evidence of this claim, it’s confirmed that Nissan is committed to offering a robust lineup of hybrids and plug-in hybrids, mirroring Toyota’s approach with the RAV4, with plans to roll out a range of options within two years.

Nissan has recently confirmed to Global Connected Report that its all-new model will hit the US market soon, as previously reported by Automobile and Driver. Within the 2025 calendar year’s 12 months.

That would likely render it a 2026 mannequin. While Nissan’s new offering could indeed mark its inaugural foray into the U.S. market with a plug-in hybrid, it is worth noting that the company has already introduced traditional hybrids to American consumers.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid

Nissan may reportedly share components with the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid, a move that makes sense given both the Rogue and Outlander are built on largely identical platforms. As part of their 2016 partnership, Nissan previously announced plans to adopt this technology in at least one of its North American vehicle models, a result of the company’s alliance with Mitsubishi following its acquisition of a stake in the latter.

The hybrid powertrain combines a 2.4-litre inline-four engine with two electric motors, producing 248 horsepower and offering an estimated electric range of up to 28 miles under the EPA’s rating. Mitsubishi’s hybrid technology enables seamless transitions between series and parallel operating modes, allowing the gasoline engine to function as a generator while the electric motors provide propulsive power.

2025 Nissan Rogue

As recently as last year, Nissan appeared poised to leverage the Mitsubishi technology primarily in its pickup truck offerings. Nissan and Mitsubishi reportedly collaborated on a new model, featuring both all-electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, slated for production in Mexico and subsequent availability in the US market.

Meanwhile, Nissan is finally introducing its highly-acclaimed e-Energy hybrid technology to the US market, after successful implementations in Europe, Japan, and other regions with the series-hybrid system. market.

Nissan has officially confirmed to Inexperienced Automobile Stories that its lineup for the US market will include not only the Mitsubishi-based PHEV Rogue but also another new offering. In our 2026 fiscal year. That translates to anywhere from April 2026 through March 2027.

In a separate announcement in late March, the automaker revealed plans to introduce several hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) models to the U.S. market by 2028, with some featuring e-Energy technology; the company aims to achieve price parity with non-hybrid vehicles.
