GAC-Toyota unveiled the electric SUV on November 17 under its Bozhi sub-brand. The X4 is the model’s first ever compact SUV.

The electric SUV boasts a distinctive hammerhead-inspired front grille, accentuated by a cluster of multi-faceted LED headlights that provide unparalleled visibility and style. The Toyota bZ4X model measures exactly 4,690 millimeters (185 inches) in length, 1,860 millimeters (73 inches) in width, and 1,650 millimeters (65 inches) in height. Based largely on the same e-TNGA platform.

The Toyota bZ4X will be equipped with a 66.7 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, mirroring its design, capable of delivering an estimated range of up to 615 kilometres on the Chinese Laboratory Test Cycle.

Electrek’s Take

Toyota faces challenges in China’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market. The company has faced several issues with its BZ3 electric sedan, leading to recalls.

As a result of the extreme market conditions in China, the automotive manufacturer’s joint venture with FAW will be implementing production cuts.

Market leaders such as BYD and Tesla consistently demonstrate lower costs throughout the year, prompting other manufacturers to take notice. As affordable electric vehicles (EVs) like BYD’s Dolphin start at just $17,500, industry leaders Toyota and others face significant challenges in keeping up with the competition.

Toyota had previously reduced the cost of its bZ4X model earlier this year. A high-tech mannequin could help revitalize sales figures.

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Toyota sold approximately 1.26 million vehicles through September, an 8% year-over-year decline. BYD’s gross sales, meanwhile, surged by a substantial 60%.
