Motor patterns dictate that, regardless of hypotheses, they will not accommodate a manual transmission or stick shift. According to comments by Shinji Aoyama, Honda’s International Officer responsible for Electrification, this development is primarily grounded on. Honda is reportedly considering adding an automated transmission to its dual-motor hybrid system in the Civic, aiming to provide a more engaging driving experience without a clutch pedal.

Honda Prelude idea

Introduced in Japan in 1978, the Honda Prelude was initially marketed as a sporty coupe, characterized by its sleek design and robust mechanical foundation, which drew heavily from Honda’s mainstream models. Manufacturing culminated in 2002 with the introduction of its fifth-generation model.

At the 2023 Tokyo Auto Show, Honda presented a concept for its iconic Prelude, hinting at its intention to bring the model back into production. While the confirmation of a European manufacturing model was made, it remains unclear whether similar plans are in store for the U.S. market, as no such announcements have been made; however, Honda did elect to renew the Prelude trademark in the United States, sparking speculation about potential future developments. In 2023, this could potentially lay the groundwork for a brand-new hybrid coupe to make its mark on the market.

While Honda’s current two-motor hybrid technology renders a conventional transmission unnecessary, the company’s legacy of innovation may suggest that. The Unique Perception came with a 5-speed manual transmission, while Honda offered a manual option on the CR-Z, a hybrid that sought to tap into the nostalgia of car enthusiasts by billing itself as a spiritual successor to the iconic Honda CR-X.
