BMW has launched its inaugural bulletproof electric sedan, the BMW i7 Security Edition, as it continues to diversify its emission-free lineup across various market segments.

What’s behind BMW’s latest innovation?

Meet the i7, a revolutionary electric luxury sedan that sets new standards in style, performance, and safety.

For nearly five decades, BMW has produced innovative safety vehicles, but the i7 Safety model marks a significant breakthrough.

As BMW unveiled its inaugural electric i7 series in late April, its latest creation takes a step forward in the realm of emission-free luxury travel.

The BMW i4 Safety is the German automaker’s debut all-electric model in its safety class. The Safety EV features a robust, self-supported body structure fabricated from high-strength armor-grade steel. Options were expanded to include armoring for the underbody, as well as roof and armored glass.

BMW’s bespoke electric vehicle boasts cutting-edge armoring technology, providing unparalleled protection against firearms and explosive threats. The BMW i7’s advanced safety features are rooted in the official test standards from Germany’s Association of Test Laboratories for Assault-Resistant Materials and Constructions (VPAM), ensuring a high level of protection.

Established in compliance with guidelines for bullet-resistant vehicles, the certification sets forth standards for ballistic resilience while adhering to regulations for explosive-resistant vehicles and the PAS 300 standard for blast resistance.

BMW’s i3 electric sedan boasts impressive safety features, including protection against explosive threats. The material offers a high level of protection against fire caused by 7.62x54R caliber ammunition, ensuring safety equivalent to that provided by the highest civilian resistance class (VPAM 10) for such threats.

BMW claims its new electric sedan, equipped with bespoke armor on the roof and undercarriage, can provide a robust defense against aerial threats such as drone attacks or explosive projectiles like hand grenades.

The BMW i4 eDrive40’s efficiency is bolstered by its shared components with the flagship all-electric variant, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive, showcasing the model’s commitment to synergy and optimization. Equipped with two advanced electric motors, the BMW i7 Safety generates a combined output of 544 horsepower and 549 pound-feet of torque.

BMW claims its advanced electric vehicle can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 9 seconds, although the added weight does slow it down; top speed is limited to 99mph.

Within the cabin, designers have incorporated thoughtful features to enhance the driving experience for officers, including an innovative “cool field” between the rear seats that keeps beverages at a refreshing temperature. Equipped with the latest advancements in security and technology, this model will feature BMW’s cutting-edge OS 8.5.

BMW’s innovative armored electric vehicle boasts a novel feature – a motorized system enabling hands-free opening and closing of doors. The custom-made mannequin is designed to simulate real-world conditions, featuring advanced life-support systems, including a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) air supply, a fire suppression device with manual discharge instructions, blinking LED indicators for added visibility, a built-in radio communication system, transceivers for seamless interaction, and adjustable flagpoles for customizable signaling.

The all-new i7 electric luxury sedan is slated to roll off the assembly line at BMW Group’s flagship Plant Dingolfing in Germany, the automaker’s biggest production hub on the continent. The innovative vehicle will publicly premiere at the IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich this September, with initial deliveries scheduled for December 2023.
