On September 25, BYD commemorated a milestone as the 9 millionth new electric vehicle rolled off its production lines.

The Yangwang U9, an automotive milestone, marked the 9 millionth vehicle produced, a remarkable distinction compared to its predecessor, the BYD Dolphin, which rolled off the line just two months prior at BYD’s newly established Thailand manufacturing facility. Based on current manufacturing and sales trends, it is likely that BYD will produce its tenth million new energy vehicle this year, with a possible chance of reaching eleven million units as well.

BYD’s ninth millionth new energy-powered automobile was a Yangwang U9 electric sports car, which recently began delivering to customers, boasting impressive specifications (refer to Yangwang U9 specs). The sleekly designed automobile boasts an impressive price tag of approximately 1.68 million yuan (239,100 USD), its resplendent cabernet crimson hue commanding attention. This supercar is equipped with four electric motors, each delivering 240 kilowatts of power, resulting in a combined output of 960 kilowatts. With its impressive capabilities, it can deliver peak torque of 1680 Nm, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a swift 2.36 seconds, and covering the 0-400 meter mark in just 9.78 seconds; its top velocity reaches an incredible 309 km/h.

Equipped with the E4 platform and the DiSUS X suspension system, this vehicle boasts a clever, absolutely energetic physique management system featuring air springs and twin-valve shock absorbers. These advanced features enable seamless coordination of dual social events with the Yangwang U9. While it’s the most effective dancing car at home, it’s also capable of driving again with just three wheels if needed.

The electric juice powering this adventure-seeking vehicle comes from a substantial 80 kWh battery pack, employing a reliable lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry in its high-performance blade battery design. The vehicle provides up to a staggering 450km range when utilising the conservative Certified Low Tread Wear Combined (CLTC) measurement system. This technology could facilitate rapid simultaneous recharging of two guns to an extent of 500 kW, allowing a 50 percentage point increase in state-of-charge from 30% to 80% within just ten minutes.

According to BYD, the U9 boasts the distinction of being China’s first mass-produced model to incorporate carbon fiber body structural components, featuring the world’s largest monocoque carbon cabin. Supposedly, the fabric is a staggering 5 to 6 times stronger than metal in terms of tensile strength, boasting an unparalleled resilience that defies expectations.

The Yangwang U9 is rolling off the production lines of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Shenshan. The facility boasts a reputation as China’s sole production hub for cutting-edge, bespoke electric sports cars. As part of BYD’s manufacturing process, the company utilises a 2,000 square-metre clear workshop, featuring a precisely controlled environment with regulated temperature and humidity levels, to manufacture high-quality carbon cabins. Moreover, the corporation boasts a team comprised of highly skilled and exceptionally experienced personnel. Shenshan, a pioneering metropolitan project, lies strategically between the bustling cities of Shenzhen and Shanwei in China’s Guangdong province.

It is widely known that BYD took over 13 years, from the launch of its inaugural pure electric vehicle, the F3DM, in 2008 to May 2021, to deliver its one millionth new energy car. Since then, it has yielded an additional eight million in just over three years.
