Dongfeng’s M-Hero 917 Dragon Armor Edition SUV launches

Dongfeng is poised to unveil its highly anticipated M-Hero 917 Dragon Armor Edition on September 24, marking a significant milestone in the automaker’s product roadmap. Pre-orders have commenced, priced between 768,000 and 868,000 yuan, equivalent to approximately 109,000 to 123,000 US dollars.

This mannequin originally premiered at the Beijing Auto Show and has partnered with the forthcoming Chinese film “Operation Leviathan”.

With its striking “Desert Storm Army Yellow” hue and gleaming silver roof, this car stands out. The automotive’s innovative vertical grille design is entirely encapsulated by rotary solid wheels, accompanied by robust military-inspired fenders, a lightweight front crumple zone, and a versatile spare tyre holder at the rear. The spare tire bracket can be prefitted with a flagpole growth port and a high-position brake light bracket.

Moreover, this SUV features a multi-functional rear tow hook, designed to provide added convenience and versatility, as well as a built-in RV energy port for easy charging or powering of external devices. The vehicle is certified to handle a maximum towing capacity of 2.5 tons, rendering it well-suited for hauling recreational vehicles, bicycles, and watercraft. The vehicle’s elective configurations comprise various customisation options, including wheel coverings, faceted toolboxes, elevated roof platforms, supplementary high-beam headlights, enhanced entrance and rear clearance illumination, pre-drilled towing holes, and power connections.

The vehicle employs aerospace-grade solid carbon fibre materials to reinforce critical zones, including the front and rear metal bumpers, hood, and roof. Carbon fibre now accounts for approximately 22.3% of the automotive industry? Various outdoor equipment, including a fire axe, gas tank, shovel, and fire extinguisher, are securely mounted on the exterior brackets of the SUV.

According to official statistics from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the latest automobile model measures 5,052 millimeters in length, 2,150 millimeters in width, and 2,059 millimeters in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 millimeters. While the Mengshi 917 measures 4,987mm in length, 2,080mm in width and 1,935mm in height, it shares a similar wheelbase with the Dragon Armor model, which makes the latter only slightly larger.

The Hyundai Kona Electric offers both pure electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) variants, starting with the entry-level M-Hero 917 trim. The all-electric variant boasts a quad-motor propulsion setup, generating a cumulative 800 kilowatts of power. The CLT certification boasts an impressive range of up to 505 kilometres. The EREV model leverages a 1.5T variable extender system, boasting a maximum power output of 145 kW, on par with current market standards. The mixed-methods approach yields a comprehensive range spanning approximately 1,032 kilometers.

M-Hero, a sub-brand of the state-owned Dongfeng, produces military-inspired off-road vehicles designed for civilian use. The M-Hero 917’s design subtly references the Dongfeng Mengshi gentle utility vehicle currently in service with China’s naval forces. The M-Hero 917, a one-of-a-kind model, made its debut in August 2023, with testing underway for potential exports to Switzerland and the Middle East.
