Hyundai premiered the Casper Electric at the Busan Global Mobility Show in South Korea in June.

The brand-new low-cost electric vehicle made a significant splash at its unveiling, boasting a compact yet surprisingly practical design. Hyundai anticipates significant impact from this compact innovation, which is poised to accelerate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.

South Korea-based Hyundai has started accepting pre-orders for the Casper EV in its home market, with prices starting at approximately 31.5 million won ($22,800) for the base model.

As part of a government incentive program, Hyundai is now offering its entry-level “Inspiration” model at a starting price of just $14,500, a significant discount of approximately 20 million Korean won.

According to Hyundai, the newly launched electric vehicle (EV) is essentially the most compelling option for many customers looking to switch to an eco-friendly mode of transportation. The Hyundai Kona Electric, with its 49 kWh battery, boasts an impressive range of up to 195 miles (315 km) on a single charge.

Hyundai’s subcompact crossover, Casper, is receiving a high-tech upgrade with its new e-XRT (Electric-Crossover Real Time Therapy) system.

The Casper, measuring just 3,825 mm in length, is actually shorter than the Chevrolet Bolt EV, yet Hyundai claims its electric compact is well-suited for urban adventures. The e-Casper boasts significant size advantages over its gas-powered counterpart, measuring 230mm longer and 15mm wider, thereby offering generous additional space for rear-seat occupants.

Hyundai’s compact Casper electric vehicle is now expanding its offerings with the introduction of a new XRT trim level. A prototype of the off-road-centric model was spotted in South Korea prior to its formal unveiling.

Despite its attempts at camouflage, the latest video still manages to expose a plethora of aggressive new design elements. The journalist observes that Hyundai’s latest trim level boasts a slightly more assertive character, reminiscent of the sporty GT model.

While the flip indicators and headlights remain unchanged, the front bumper undergoes a comprehensive redesign.

Hyundai’s compact Casper electric vehicle is being exported to foreign markets following its successful debut as the Intrado EV. In Europe, the Insignia starts at €25,000 (£22,000) and offers a WLTP range of up to 220 miles (355 km).

Launching within the US?

Within the United States, a mix of reliable and misleading data exists. It appears that Hyundai doesn’t plan to bring the Casper (or Intrado) electric vehicle to the US market. Notwithstanding, the highly anticipated 2025 IONIQ 5 rollout is expected to commence at US dealerships this autumn.
