BYD dominates Chinese sales in August

While it’s easy to attribute the “its BYD and all the rest” notion solely to the advertising and PR machine, the stark reality is that BYD’s impressive growth is substantiated by its robust sales figures. Recently, Yiche achieved a milestone by compiling the top-40 list of best-selling home cars. A closer examination of the document suggests it initially appears to pertain solely to electric vehicles, but further analysis reveals its intended scope is actually far more comprehensive, encompassing a wider audience. Despite the notable penetration rate of NEVs in August standing at a substantial 53.9%, this development may not be entirely surprising.

Within the global automotive landscape, BYD dominates the top six positions in sales charts, boasting an impressive 12 models within the top 20 ranks alone. Among the top 10 manufacturers, only BYD stood out, while Wuling took two spots: its Mini EV secured seventh place, and the Bingo landed at ninth. Meanwhile, Li Auto secured an impressive eighth-place finish with its L6 model.

The top 20 positions in the High 40 are held by some remarkable artists and songs.

Let’s take a closer look at the entire Top 40? Many producers are finding it challenging to identify effective fashion trends, including several well-established industry leaders. One of the largest state-owned enterprises (SOEs) listed is Changan, followed by GAC’s Aion and FAW’s Hongqi. While it could be argued that Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) should be considered due to its significant ownership stake in Wuling, a more nuanced understanding is warranted given that SAIC only manages less than half of the company. Notably, Nice Wall, an iconic and dynamic company with a rich history, surprisingly lags behind its competitors, only ranking 36th, while the Havel Huge Canine claims the top spot. While Geely’s financials aren’t as robust as BYD’s, it still fares better than NIO’s.

Volkswagen’s plan to launch a new electric vehicle (EV) platform for its luxury brand Porsche is facing another setback. The company has announced that the development of the platform, initially scheduled for 2025, will be delayed by at least two years due to ongoing issues with software integration. As a result, Volkswagen will cut approximately 7,000 jobs across the group in an effort to reduce costs and focus on more profitable areas of its business.
