Although the Thruxton RS was simply an evolution of its existing counterpart, the Thruxton R, it still warranted considerable attention. The team at Hinckley has successfully developed a solution to infuse even greater excitement into the iconic Thruxton platform. By reconfiguring their acclaimed water-cooled parallel-twin engine, Triumph managed to boost power output from 95 horsepower in the R model to an impressive 105 horsepower.
The RS arrives with a reduced curb weight of 197 kg versus 202 kg, its sporty engine performance enhanced by high-compression pistons, coupled with Brembo M50 monobloc brakes and premium Metzeler Racetec RR K3 tires. Given the significant upgrade of the Thruxton RS, Triumph has effectively discontinued its predecessors, the Thruxton and Thruxton R, in favor of this more advanced model.
For 24 months running, our production line has remained unchanged, with no revisions made to the Thruxton RS thus far. Given that the Spanish workshop, Tamarit Bikes, is renowned for customizing Triumph motorcycles, it’s hardly surprising that they hosted a workshop focused on modifying these iconic vehicles. Renamed Renatide 74, this iconic Thruxton RS gained its moniker due to the trust and loyalty of first-time owner Oscar.
“Tamarit notes that Oscar had been closely tracking their work for an extensive period, demonstrating a deep understanding of their creative process.” He aimed to push his cycling skills to an unprecedented level. As soon as he chose the brand-new, high-end Thruxton RS, it was transported to Tamarit without even being assigned a license plate – what an extraordinary start!
Oscar granted the Tamarit team unfettered creative liberty in their design, with only one stipulation. The colour that holds a special place in his heart is actually a bespoke shade from the Porsche palette, known as Crayon Gray. Tamarit embarked on crafting its unique take on the iconic Triumph café racer design, breathing new life into this timeless classic.
The Spanish design house Tamarit initiated their bespoke makeover by implementing a multitude of subtle yet significant enhancements to the Thruxton’s exterior aesthetic. Drawing on their extensive expertise with Triumph motorcycles, the team drew from their well-established inventory of high-quality aftermarket components. Perched atop the checklist, responsible for the most striking alteration in aesthetics is the Tamarit Monaco seat. While Tamarit has tailored its personal aftermarket half to craft a unique one-off design on this particular instance. The revised Monaco rear cowl features an unconventional breakup seat integrated into its design, now finished in bold, rich purple leather.
Mounted beneath the Monaco saddle sit two Tamarit Dakota faceted covers. The bike boasts an array of additional features, including a Tamarit Little Bastard entrance fender, a chain cowl, a Hummer-inspired sump guard, a floating license plate holder, and a customized gauge surround that further enhance its unique appearance. Notably, a close examination of this Thruxton RS reveals the incorporation of aftermarket components from various manufacturers. The bike features a unique combination of components, including Rizoma’s fluid reservoirs, MD’s finned engine covers, and Motogadget’s ergonomic grips and bar-end indicators. Not all of those aesthetic additions were made solely for visual appeal.
The all-new gauge cluster on the Thruxton RS boasts elevated and expanded features. The installation of this component enables the fitting of a premium-grade headlamp. The LED unit, manufactured by JW Speaker, features integrated gyroscopes. Since the bike tilts when cornering, they adjust the lighting to more prominently highlight the road ahead in curves. Tightly wedged between the fork legs to preserve the bike’s proportions, the brand-new headlight was secured in place. As for the facet covers, they offer a limited approach to improve performance on select bike models, yielding only a few minor efficiency enhancements.
Emerging from the Dakota facades are innovative forward-facing energy filters, expertly designed to feed the engine a constant supply of crisp, cool air through their strategically positioned protrusions. On the final, noisy finish of the combustion cycle, a complete exhaust system from renowned Italian experts Zard takes over. Kineo’s spoke rims cleverly shed a substantial amount of unsprung weight, while a steering damper helps maintain a consistent entry point in testing.
“The distinctive gray crayon paint finish is a signature element of the iconic Porsche 911 design palette.” The decals may be found on the seat cowl, facet covers, and tank of Renatide 74. Despite the challenge, Tamarit remained determined, refusing to let Oscar down: “This colour wasn’t easy to find, but we couldn’t disappoint him.” “The majority of the bike’s design features a sleek black hue, expertly contrasting with the vibrant purple accents of the seat and energy filters.”
The collaborative team behind Each Oscar and Tamarit Bikes has undoubtedly invested significant contemplation in the development of their impressive Thruxton RS model. Their tireless efforts have yielded an extraordinary, one-of-a-kind bicycle. May our current optimism prompt various architects to contemplate the potential for innovative enhancements to Triumph’s iconic Fashionable Traditional design, thereby sparking a new wave of creative interpretations.
