Jaguar takes aim at Tesla by offering a $3,000 incentive to current electric-vehicle owners who trade in their existing ride for the I-PACE?

Jaguar goes after Tesla with $3,000 incentive for owners to buy I-Pace

Jaguar is targeting Tesla owners with a bold move: a $3,000 incentive to buy its I-PACE electric vehicle at a discounted price of $12,000 – a whopping 75% off the original sticker price.

The UK-based automobile manufacturer unveiled its inaugural all-electric vehicle, the I-Tempo, last year.

Despite limited success in select European markets, the car’s performance in the US has been lackluster, even with the added incentive of 0% financing to boost sales?

Jaguar’s sales of its I-PACE electric SUV have stalled at around 200 units per month in the US market. By mid-July, the company had successfully delivered just over 1,500 electric vehicles in the US for the year to date.

To address the competitive landscape, Jaguar has been targeting Tesla owners with its electric vehicle offerings.

In an unexpected move earlier this year, Tesla owners began receiving mailers from Jaguar boldly comparing their I-PACE to the Model X.

Now, Tesla house owners are reportedly receiving a supplementary $3,000 “Tesla conquest” incentive, in addition to other incentives, to encourage them to purchase an I-Tempo.

The automaker claims that you solely desire evidence of Tesla ownership, without ever seeking a specific Tesla trade-in.

For property owners or their family members, proof of registration and current location information for their Tesla vehicle are required. One incentive is restricted to each eligible vehicle identification number (VIN). Utilize this opportunity to explore the direction of leasing or buying a brand-new, unused 2019 I-Tempo. No trade-in required. Not redeemable for money. Suppliers are incentivized with a payment contingent on their active involvement.

At a base MSRP of $69,500 for the I-Tempo, the $15,000 discount effectively brings the price down to a more affordable $54,500.

Electrek’s Take

While Tesla owners had initially dismissed Jaguar’s efforts to entice them to buy the I-Pace, the discounts are now becoming increasingly significant, prompting a reevaluation of their stance.

My earlier review of the Jaguar I-Pace noted its beauty as an electric vehicle and a strong debut in the electric segment for the automaker, despite some notable flaws.

Despite reservations, I’m left questioning whether Jaguar’s assertion that its F-PACE is a genuine SUV stands up to scrutiny when compared to the Land Rover Range Rover Sport?

While Tesla’s Model X may resemble its smaller counterpart, the I-Tempo, this full-size SUV boasts significantly more cargo space, making it an attractive option for those seeking a vehicle that can accommodate their needs with ease.

Why Jaguar continues to benchmark itself against the Model S, I think they’re actually undermining their own success.

Jaguar boasts an impressive electric vehicle (EV) in its lineup. That doesn’t suggest that they necessarily have to pit it against any electric vehicle on the market.

If Rivian is expected to carve out a niche in the electric vehicle market, it needs to focus on differentiating itself within that space rather than trying to steal market share directly from Tesla, which would be a challenging task.

While significant cuts of this magnitude may pique the interest of certain individuals.
