While numerous electric bike conversion kits have emerged over time, few are as visually captivating as the Clip offering. The corporation is no longer merely drawing attention with its physical presence on the road; it’s also taking a bold step forward by securing a $10 million Series A funding round to expand its operations.

We launched our protection efforts for the Clip package in 2021, even as the innovation was still in its nascent stages, yet had already gained a mythical reputation of sorts.

At the Micromobility Europe convention in Amsterdam, we finally had the chance to test the Clip e-bike conversion kit in person in 2023. In this brief video clip, viewers gain insight into the test’s technical aspects; more significantly, they witness the straightforward process of installing and removing the package from a motorcycle.

That’s the actual fantastic thing about the Clip package: With its clever design, all components are easily removable, allowing the donor bike to be transformed back into a pedal bicycle seamlessly. While some e-bike enthusiasts might require a complete electrification of their ride, others merely seek occasional boosts for their pedal-powered bikes – this is where the Clip system comes into play, offering a versatile solution. The device provides additional power when cyclists require it, yet seamlessly disappears to minimize added weight and maintain a streamlined profile when not needed.

While the included drive system may appear dated at first glance, its basic mechanism is surprisingly effective – a simple friction drive that uses a roller system to rotate the front tire. Over two decades ago, friction drives were a common feature of early e-bikes, yet they also came with their share of drawbacks. One of the most significant advantages of clipless pedals is their ability to effectively isolate riders from interacting with the rest of the bike, a feature that has never been more seamlessly implemented than by Clip.

By offering the innovative system in a user-friendly, detached format, which highlights its affordability with a price tag of just $499, the company has witnessed rapid growth and success. With a focus on growth and development, Clip is seeking a $10 million Collection A funding round.

Clip’s stock price has experienced a significant surge before, but this recent spike is unprecedented. The corporation has already closed on a $2.8 million seed round, led by Motovolt Mobility, in November, which added to nearly $2 million in earlier funding secured throughout its history.

While offering flexibility and adaptability, the Clip package is specifically tailored for cyclists seeking a supplementary boost, without requiring them to dedicate their existing bicycles to permanent e-bike commitment.

As Clip’s e-bike conversion kits gain momentum – quite literally, with a boost from their sales and marketing efforts – they’re likely to become a familiar sight on streets near you.
