What’s behind the Hyundai IONIQ 5?

The highly anticipated Hyundai three-row electric SUV has been delayed in its rollout schedule. Although Hyundai had initially planned to unveil the IONIQ 9 this summer, it now appears that its release may be delayed.

As of our knowledge cutoff in mid-2022, Hyundai has not officially announced a production timeline for the Ioniq 9. However, rumors suggest that it might debut around late 2023 or early 2024, with mass production likely to begin sometime after that. Note that these are just speculative estimates and should be taken as unofficial information until an official announcement is made by Hyundai.

At the LA 2021 auto show, Hyundai premiered its inaugural three-row electric SUV. Initially dubbed the SEVEN concept, this name hinted at its future status within Hyundai’s model hierarchy, poised to join the IONIQ family with the IONIQ 7.

Notwithstanding the controversy surrounding its naming convention, whispers emerged in early 2023 about Hyundai’s plans to dub its upcoming flagship electric SUV the IONIQ 9. The identification of change is indeed greater than the sum of its parts. As the ninth addition to its lineup, Hyundai’s latest electric SUV is poised to become the company’s new flagship model.

Hyundai has delayed the launch of its highly-anticipated IONIQ 9 electric vehicle, which was previously slated for a summer debut at the Busan Motor Show, with the new target date set for later this year.

South Korean reports reveal that Hyundai continues testing its electric SUV, fueling speculation about a potential market entry. Before launching the new model, Hyundai must ensure that its prototype is meticulously refined.

Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 has been spotted numerous times during public testing, echoing the buzz surrounding its debut. In April, our team gained a close-up look at the large-bodied electric SUV when it was spotted undergoing tests on California’s roads. As seen in the video, the IONIQ 9 noticeably surpasses the IONIQ 5 in size, with a substantial difference evident to the viewer.

In late August, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was revealed shortly after Kia’s EV6. The journalist noted that Hyundai’s Ioniq 9 boasted a more substantial frontal presence, with a less angular silhouette compared to the electric EV9.

Kia’s three-row electric SUV, EV9, has made a blazing start in the US market, with a total of 9,671 units delivered during the first half of 2024. Meanwhile, Hyundai maintained its impressive momentum in Q2, boasting strong sales of its IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 models in the US market.

Hyundai Motor America’s CEO, Randy Parker, recently announced in an interview that the company is empowering customers to make the switch to electric vehicles by offering long-range, fast-charging EVs at an affordable price point.

At a starting price of $229 per month, the 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 offers an even more competitive leasing option compared to the most budget-friendly vehicle in the US market – the 2024 Nissan Versa.

Hyundai has delayed the IONIQ 9’s launch to ensure its brand-new electric vehicle meets exacting standards. What’s the latest scoop on Hyundai’s cutting-edge electric vehicle?
