Volkswagen has become the leading automotive manufacturer to pioneer the development of a fully-fledged Stage 4 autonomous driving (Autonomous Driving) service vehicle, paving the way for mass production.

Stage 4 autonomous vehicles demonstrate the capability to operate safely and efficiently in most urban environments, navigating complex scenarios with minimal human intervention. It was capable of driving autonomously, without any passengers on board.

The Volkswagen Group is significantly expanding its Advanced Driver (AD) capabilities to support the development and integration of autonomous driving technologies in its new electric vehicle, the VW ID. Following a rigorous pilot program in both the US and Germany alongside technology leader Mobileye, Buzz AD is poised for a major announcement.

Christian Senger, a member of the administrative board at Volkswagen Industrial Automobiles responsible for Autonomous Driving (AD), announced that they are developing the world’s first fully autonomous mass-produced vehicle, with Mobileye joining forces as a partner in this endeavour.

Volkswagen and Mobileye have launched a cooperative agreement that focuses on the development and deployment of a self-driving system (SDS) for the ID series, marking a significant milestone in their partnership. After a stagnant period of nearly two years, Buzz AD now presents opportunities for revitalization and growth.

The ID. Here is the improved text in a different style:

The innovative AD option features two independent computer systems, integrated with 13 cameras, nine state-of-the-art lidar sensors from Innoviz, and five advanced radar models, all capable of generating a comprehensive 360-degree environmental mapping. A cloud-based connectivity enables autonomous vehicles to access collective knowledge from multiple highway users regarding traffic scenarios and updates 3D mapping data.

Volkswagen’s Autonomous Driving Mobility Technology (ADMT) aims to create a fully electric and self-driving Volkswagen ID model. Buzz will be utilized across the US and European industrial landscapes starting from 2026.
