Jérémie’s latest endeavour showcases that his creations transcend mere assemblages of components, instead boasting a level of sophistication and cohesion that elevates them to an art form.
The custom ’94 BMW R100 RT, a labor of love that demanded around 350 hours to complete, seamlessly blends vintage-inspired elements with modern efficiencies and bespoke bodywork.
After years of eagerness to work on an R-series BMW, Jérémie finally acquired the ideal initiative donor from a close and trusted friend. Dubbed Nebula, this individual characterizes the R100 RT as a neo-retro café racer due to its harmonious blend of cutting-edge technology and timeless design elements. Unlike many of his other initiatives, the origin story of this project unfolded without much prior planning or preparation; “everything was already mapped out in my mind,” he recalls. “I focus on designing minute components, such as the bike’s tail assembly.”
Following the initial disassembly, Jérémie installed aftermarket components and high-performance parts sourced from various donor motorcycles to bring his creative vision to life. The R100 entrance finish has been replaced with a set featuring BMW R9T forks paired with Ohlins suspension internals for upgraded performance. The suspension setup features a custom-tuned Öhlins monoshock, expertly fine-tuned by DIP Racing to perfectly complement the motorcycle’s dynamics.
With the bike equipped with premium suspension, it logically followed that the brakes should also be top-notch. As a result, the R100 RT features upgraded braking performance courtesy of Brembo calipers, which connect seamlessly to an front Nissan master cylinder and rear Brembo pump via high-quality, custom-designed braided brake hoses. The wheels are brand-new and utilize 17-inch BMW 850GS rims, shod with high-quality Dunlop Qualifier tires.
Subsequently, some chassis work arrived. The body was thoroughly de-tabbed and sanitized to eliminate any unnecessary clutter. The subframe was subsequently removed, and a custom-designed rear hoop was installed. The reengineered swingarm now accommodates a substantial 160-profile tire, providing increased grip and traction.
Nebula boasts cutting-edge technology following a comprehensive electrical revamp, showcasing its exceptional engineering prowess. The bike’s Motogadget m.Unit Blue electronics controller is linked via a bespoke wiring harness. Perched atop the highest clamp, an Aeon Aria digital speedometer, encased in a sturdy aluminum housing, sits proudly above CNC-machined push-button swap blocks, supported by robust handlebars. The Motogadget mo.Lock allows seamless operation of the bike without the need for a traditional key, while a compact lithium battery is discreetly integrated into a custom-designed housing situated behind the engine.
All lighting fixtures have been replaced with stylish and modern LED alternatives. As you approach the vehicle’s front, notice the prominent LED headlamp, accompanied by striking Kellerman Jetstream sequential turn signals that create a sleek, high-tech profile. The rear finish has undergone a comprehensive overhaul in conjunction with the installation of a Shin Yo LED Bolt/XSR900 aftermarket taillight. The bespoke rear flip indicators, seamlessly integrated into the tail unit through a Frenching process, boast precision-crafted plexiglass components, further enhanced by machining and internal illumination courtesy of LEDs.
This premium bicycle boasts an array of bespoke features that elevate its performance far beyond standard off-the-shelf components, showcasing the benefits of customisation. The brand-new forks, for instance, are nestled in custom-machined triple clamps designed by USV Racing, featuring a retrofit steering damper to effectively mitigate pace-wobble issues. The LED headlamp resides within a custom fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) bikini fairing that features distinctive MotoGP-style winglets. The tail unit is a singular, bespoke design crafted to specifically address the challenge of the Shin Yo brake lever’s unique characteristics.
To ensure the bike’s suspension is properly calibrated, Jérémie raised the gasoline tank by 4 centimeters. A bespoke seat adorns the newly designed subframe, while ensuring a tidy rear section, he has crafted a custom licence plate bracket to complement this unique feature. The installation of a stomach pan enhances the BMW’s sporty character, while clip-on Highsider handlebars and adjustable rearset pegs create an optimal riding position.
The engine’s efficiency has not been overlooked, having undergone a comprehensive upgrade featuring both internal and external revamps. During the rebuild, the carburetors were recalibrated and all new control cables installed. The airbox features a five-collection design, supplied by an air dam situated atop the engine’s prime unit. Jérémie’s vehicle boasts a custom-built 2-into-2 exhaust system, showcasing his attention to detail with the installation of high-performance Delcampo mufflers for optimized efficiency.
The intricacies that determine a project’s success or failure are precisely what distinguish it from others. To complete his bespoke bicycle, Jérémie crafted custom roundels for his Jerem Bikes BMW project, using intricately cut aluminum created by a precision laser process. The gas tank’s filler cap bears a classic Monza design, while the bar finish mirrors are premium Highsider CNC-machined alloy components that exude a touch of sophistication. The metallic purple paintwork, though undoubtedly polarizing, is a deliberate nod to traditional BMW aesthetics; its application employs a timeless pinstriping technique that adds visual interest. Meanwhile, the seat’s upholstery features black leather and a vibrant purple plaid pattern, blending contrasting textures in a manner both bold and alluring. The gold detailing on the carbs and brake grasp cylinder ties seamlessly into the Ohlins gearing, perfectly complemented by the timeless satin black finish of the body and engine.
The completed BMW café racer is a stunning sight to behold, with its sleek design and powerful performance that makes for an exceptional riding experience: “It’s completely steady and exact, making it a joy to ride.” Jérémie confesses that the bike is utterly captivating, acknowledging that marketing it won’t be an easy task, as many of his similar models will soon become available. Any takers?
