GoShare, the innovative scooter-sharing platform leveraging Gogoro’s cutting-edge battery-swapping electric scooters, is witnessing a significant surge in growth following its latest strategic partnership.
Taiwan’s e-mobility pioneer Gogoro is partnering with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the globe’s leading semiconductor provider, to bring its innovative GoShare sharing platform to Taichung Metropolis in Taiwan.
Taipei’s Gogoro has successfully operated its GoShare platform within the nation’s capital since launching it in 2019. Since its inception, GoShare’s services have expanded to an additional six cities, facilitating a remarkable 20 million rides that have collectively reduced CO2 emissions by an impressive 7 million kilograms.
As the corporation expands to Taiwan’s second-largest city, we’re now serving three million new residents.
Taichung Metropolis has gained international recognition for its enviable urban landscape, committing to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
The plan also allows for sponsored entries for tens of thousands of university students in the city, according to Gogoro founder and CEO Horace Luke.
In densely populated urban areas, sustainable vitality and transportation are crucial concerns for the long-term. Gogoro takes a pivotal step forward in collaboration with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and the visionary city of Taichung to bring Gogoro’s innovative two-wheel electric sharing service, GoShare, to local residents.
Together, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the City of Taichung, and Gogoro are ushering in a pioneering era of sustainable urban transportation for Taichung’s nearly three million residents, along with sponsored access to over 50,000 college students and more than 60,000 TSMC employees. This establishes a brand-new standard for cities across Taiwan and Asia that seek to promote sustainable transportation.
The partnership between Gogoro and [partner’s name] marks a significant milestone, comprising three pivotal collaborations:
- Gogoro’s fleet of GoShare Smartscooters is now available to Taichung Metropolis residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
-
GoShare announces a special offer of exclusive discounts to 50,000 freshman students at 17 universities in Taichung City.
- As GoShare expands its safeguarding capabilities to encompass adjacent urban centers, it will also collaborate with multiple railway hubs, thereby securing a pivotal role in fostering a robust municipal transportation ecosystem.
By providing sponsored transportation options for college students, cities can make significant strides towards achieving their sustainability goals in urban mobility, as many students lack the financial means to purchase an electric scooter on their own. By substituting traditional transportation methods, GoShare empowers college students to travel seamlessly across town at an affordable monthly rate through its innovative subscription model. By linking railway stations, we can effectively boost access to eco-friendly and environmentally conscious public transportation systems, thereby enabling electric scooters to serve as reliable first- and last-mile solutions.
The partnership aligns seamlessly with TSMC’s comprehensive sustainability goals and objectives. The corporation has undertaken a diverse array of sustainability initiatives aimed at significantly reducing its carbon footprint and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
As Lora Ho, Senior Vice Chairman and ESG Committee Chairperson at TSMC, stated:
As part of our commitment to creating a sustainable future, we are proud to announce a new partnership with Taichung Metropolis and Gogoro. As we reach this pivotal moment, it’s clear that a unified effort from multiple stakeholders is crucial to achieving our ambitious goals, thereby marking another significant milestone in our collective journey. By combining TSMC’s extensive presence in Taiwan, Taichung’s commitment to sustainability, and Gogoro’s expertise in electrical mobility, we’re accelerating change and expanding access to the benefits of electric vehicles for a broader customer base.
Following a brand-new partnership and another milestone achieved by Gogoro, the company recently surpassed its 500,000th battery-swapping subscriber mark.
While GoShare allows riders to rent Gogoro’s scooters by the minute, the Gogoro Community offers battery swapping as a subscription-based service for existing Gogoro scooter owners. Scooters from various manufacturers utilizing Gogoro’s interchangeable battery technology are eligible to join the Gogoro Community.
Subscribing to the service allows customers to enjoy a cost-effective ride with a reduced upfront investment, as they only pay a monthly fee tied to their actual battery usage, rather than owning the batteries themselves. The system eliminates the need for riders to consider charging their scooters at home. At a fraction of the stations – roughly one out of thousands – they pause to recharge their devices at one of the many battery swap stations whenever the batteries’ power levels dwindle.
As soon as gas pumps are refueled, a swap will take place, allowing battery stations to supply power during outages, supporting vital infrastructure such as nearby healthcare facilities and other critical services.
