Meet the game-changing HoverAir X1: a drone designed specifically for cyclists.

Non-bike bike gear tested: HoverAir X1 is the cyclists’ drone I’ve been looking for
SHARE

As an avid e-biker, I rely heavily on my bike’s gear setup to enhance my daily commutes and adventures. While previously focusing on e-bikes themselves, this iteration delves into a selection of practical tools, equipment, and other accessories that can simplify, enhance, or just amplify the experience of living a car-free lifestyle? The HoverAir X1 folding drone has proven to be an astonishing camera for my excursions, firmly solidifying its place in the ‘fun and convenient’ category.

As a result of my profession’s specific requirements, particularly in this area, I’ve been persistently searching for a compact autonomous drone capable of capturing high-caliber photographs and cinematic-quality videos during my excursions.

While I don’t crave the level of production found in Planet Earth documentaries, there’s one element I’d still find valuable for capturing professional-looking footage of my solo rides for YouTube movies and online reviews – it would be as if I had a cameraman accompanying me.

I don’t confine my travels to a specific geographic area, but also explore the globe on e-bikes. While traveling whether by car on my personal road or navigating Amsterdam’s bike lanes, I aim to minimize my belongings to fit within a single backpack. When traveling abroad, that’s particularly accurate. Since I’m not permitted to fly my advanced drones at this location, I typically leave them behind.

Once you master handling a drone, you’ll be able to capture exceptional aerial footage that sets the scene for your adventures or showcases the breathtaking vistas you encounter on your journeys. Capturing candid moments in third-person perspective shots or stunning aerial views of my cycling routes is a great way to relive and share the thrill of exploring new places.

Considering its size in relation to a motorcycle saddle is noteworthy, the drone measures approximately 30 centimeters in length and 20 centimeters in width.

Upon receiving an inquiry from the HoverAir X1 team about whether I required inspection of their compact foldable drone, I promptly seized the opportunity. I’m thrilled to have made the switch, which has led me to adopt my trusty principal driving drone as my go-to companion on the road. That’s incredibly small – it will likely fit neatly into my pocket?

The drone cleverly folds into its protective casing to safeguard all its essential components.

Despite the added case, the entire setup still occupies nearly half the compact space of my DJI Mini 3 Professional drone, further emphasizing its petite dimensions.

Despite its compact size, the camera consistently captures exceptional footage. While it may not quite live up to the standards of my high-end DJI drones, this device still manages to deliver a surprisingly decent performance. Take a moment to examine the video’s timestamp 1:09 to 1:16 for a glimpse into the meticulous work that went into crafting my comprehensive e-bike review.

The HoverAir X1 can capture 2.7K video, albeit limited to 30 frames per second. Although that’s sufficient to deliver a decent 50% bitrate reduction when exporting 1080p movies for YouTube, I won’t be taking on any slow-motion photography projects, but I’ll be able to manage.

The device also comes equipped with a generous 32GB of internal storage, thereby reducing the need for additional memory cards. With a simple Wi-Fi connection, I effortlessly capture stunning visuals on my phone, ready to share instantly.

While the single-axis gimbal might seem precarious, the digital picture stabilization effectively mitigates its limitations, yielding a remarkably stable video that eschews the typical jitter often associated with budget-friendly drones.

The photographs it captures exhibit exceptional quality, albeit with a slightly soft focus. While I’m not skilled enough to upgrade my Sony camera to produce professional-level images, the results are still impressively good. They’ll also capture panoramic views that my Sony can’t replicate without the assistance of another person to hold the camera while I move.

A decent performance from this miniature aerial camera, all things considered?

The HoverAir X1 effortlessly takes off and lands from the palm of my hand, a peculiar yet practical feature that proves particularly advantageous for cycling enthusiasts. While navigating off-road trails, I often misjudge the terrain and fail to land squarely on the designated touchdown pads, frequently finding myself stuck in grassy or rocky sections. After meticulously surveying a weed-free or grassy area for safe landing, I frequently intercept my DJI drones in mid-air to prevent potentially damaging their propellers by making contact with the ground or obstacles like rocks or overgrown vegetation during touchdown. With the palm-launched and precision-landed X1, I’m able to tackle any terrain without a second thought.

I’m confident that every single leaf has been carefully selected to create a seamless blend of flavors, with no outside influence or supervision required to achieve perfection. While the concept of autonomous flight may sound unusual to some, it’s an innovative feature of this drone that allows it to navigate and operate independently. Before departing, you select from various pre-programmed flight modes by pressing the button at the drone’s highest point. Options include orbit, which circles around you; rocket, for an upward trajectory and overhead view; dolly shot, a linear movement; observe mode, which follows you as you move; and tripod mode, which remains stationary while rotating to maintain your image in view. Within the cellphone app, you can effortlessly reconfigure tone settings ahead of time to suit your needs, such as adjusting the duration before the mode stops tracking you, or setting the altitude at which photographs are taken during flight?

Despite initial skepticism, each mode proved unexpectedly efficient, defying expectations with its remarkable performance. As I navigate through the terrain, the next mode cleverly bypasses timber and various hurdles.

Here is the rewritten text in a different style:

Within the framework of films, you may recognize patterns that unfold when watching movies.

To capture panoramic or unconventional shots, simply switch to guide mode on your phone’s camera app and operate it remotely. While having the option is beneficial, especially when capturing a brief moment of elevated scenery to establish a setting.

At a budget-friendly price point of around $350, this drone excels in capturing the desired forms of photographs and images with remarkable proficiency. If this drone solely excelled in its high-definition video capabilities, or possessed an impressively small form factor, or boasted exceptional autonomous flying and tracking features, each of these attributes would be notable achievements. While it’s great to have a multifunctional bundle at this price, it’s even more impressive when considering its overall value.

Nothing is perfect, and I have my own grievances in this regard as well. At just 9-10 minutes of flight time per charge, the compact battery size comes at a notable trade-off in terms of overall endurance. I acquired an additional power source as a precautionary measure, thereby allowing me to seamlessly replace the drained one with a fully charged backup. Since drones typically spend more time in the air, the text seems to imply an incorrect assumption about their flight duration. This feature allows you to record multiple video clips using a single battery charge during a single session.

As a result, it has an unmistakably soothing quality to it. Despite standing the test of time well, this item’s fragility becomes apparent when considering its mere 125-gram weight – roughly a quarter pound – as excessive force could easily cause damage. I don’t think that’s likely to be a complaint, especially since it’s just been well maintained up until now. It may appear somewhat flimsy and vulnerable to withstanding any significant impact. What about the folding mechanism’s protection? I’m unsure about that myself?

Throughout numerous bike journeys across various international locations, this advice has consistently proved effective to date. The device appears to be a compact, portable camera capable of capturing high-quality movies and images, potentially fitting neatly into one’s pocket while still possessing the ability to operate independently? Finally, I’ve found the bike journey drone I’ve been searching for!
