Geely’s premium electric vehicle brand Zeekr officially unveiled its global Zeekr 009 model in Hong Kong, a strategic hub for China’s international expansion. As a landmark moment, Zeekr’s ambition to propel global advancement unfolds. At the inaugural event of Automotive Information China, held at the prestigious AsiaWorld Expo in Hong Kong, China.
Andy An, Chairman of Geely Auto and CEO of Zeekr, unveiled the Zeekr 009, boasting a novel right-hand drive (RHD) configuration. Available in both 6-seat and 7-seat formats. The electric vehicle features a 400V architecture and is equipped with a substantial 116 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack. The twin electric motors deliver an impressive estimated range of up to 582 kilometres according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). Despite this, it ships without lidar. The Zeekr 0009 RHD is specifically designed for the global right-hand drive marketplaces. The translation software assists in converting phrases from various languages, including Mandarin, English, Cantonese, and Thai. The Hong Kong right-hand drive model commences at a price of 755,000 Hong Kong dollars (approximately 96,700 United States dollars).
The reworked Zeekr 009 model has now been unveiled in mainland China as well. Available in both six-passenger and seven-passenger layouts. The seven-seat variant features a 2+2+3 configuration, complete with a central aisle and third-row child safety seats that seamlessly integrate. The six-seat configuration offers plush, luxurious seating without the need for an aisle. With its sleek design featuring a 17.3-inch rear roof-mounted display, a stunning 17-inch 3K OLED ceiling display, and ambient lighting that mimics the stars on a clear night sky, this innovative space truly sets new standards for immersive entertainment. The mainland Chinese versions boast a more affordable price tag, starting from 439,000 yuan or approximately 60,400 USD.
The 108kWh 5C battery takes approximately 11.5 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% state of charge. The Zeekr 009 builds upon its predecessor’s SEA structure, introducing a rear-wheel drive variant that boasts an impressive range of power options, including 250 kW and 310 kW.
This all-wheel-drive vehicle boasts a distinctive front and rear motor setup, featuring power ratings of 200-250 kilowatts at the front and 270-310 kilowatts at the rear. The top-trim trim level takes advantage of an 800-volt platform to deliver a combined energy output of 580 kilowatts.
While Andy acknowledges that the Zeekr 009 is capable of providing a driving experience reminiscent of other vehicles in its class, he suggests that it is intended to offer more than just mere functionality, and instead invites users to consider it as an option for those who seek to combine practicality with driving pleasure. With its exceptional performance, the car’s fastest variant bursts from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.9 seconds, boasting a standard fitment of advanced features like dual-chamber air suspension and sophisticated CCD dampers. A 140-kilowatt-hour battery upgrade for the mainland model incurs an additional cost of 50,000 yuan, or approximately $6,900. This improvement enables a range of up to 900 km (CLTC), making it the longest distance achieved among Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs).
Introducing the Zeekr 009, a revolutionary upgrade boasting an astonishing 1,366 part updates while maintaining the iconic design of its predecessor. The system now features a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, previously reserved for the top-of-the-line trim level. The dimensions remain unchanged at 5,217mm × 2,024mm × 1,812mm, with a wheelbase of 3,205mm. A new palette of colors is forthcoming, featuring shades such as Azure Grey, Aurora Green, Polar Evening Black, Polar Day White, and Starry Blue.
The premium trim options boast a commanding three-spoke steering wheel, sumptuous Nappa full-grain leather seats, and luxurious Sofaro first-class airline-inspired front-row seating with integrated headrest audio systems, climate control, soothing massage functions, and radiant heating elements designed to elevate passenger comfort. The distinctive ‘lounge chair’ setting allows passengers to fully extend themselves and unwind completely.
The futuristic cockpit features a massive 35.95-inch augmented reality heads-up display (AR-HUD). The vehicle boasts an expansive infotainment system featuring dual high-definition displays: a 15.05-inch OLED screen at the front and a 17-inch OLED display at the rear, both supported by two advanced Qualcomm 8295 processors. A Yamaha 3000 series in-wall speaker system features a powerful peak audio output and seamlessly integrates Dolby Atmos immersive sound technology. A smart home system predicts energy demand and proactively notifies residents of impending high bills. The backpack also features wireless phone charging and a temperature-regulated cooler that can maintain temperatures between minus 6 degrees Celsius and 50 degrees Celsius.
The Zeekr 009 is a single MPV model that comes equipped with comprehensive crash test certification, including entrance and rear collision evaluations. In testing, the Zeekr 009 was subjected to a series of rigorous assessments, including a high-speed impact: the vehicle accelerated to 60 km/h before colliding with a stationary truck, while a separate SUV simultaneously impacted the Zeekr 009’s rear at a speed of 50 km/h. Zeekr enhanced the electrical wiring’s safety features to enable seamless doorway opening following the test. This eco-friendly cabin boasts dual certification for its environmentally sustainable design and practices. “Three features – Personal Mode, Valet Mode, and Sound Protect – have been designed to preserve your privacy.”
With its cutting-edge technology, the Zeekr 009’s dual 8295 chips and AI-powered EVA voice assistant enable seamless collaboration between the vehicle and diverse driving scenarios. The Zeekr 009 marks a significant milestone in the BEV MPV sector, seamlessly merging opulence, eco-friendliness, and cutting-edge technology to redefine industry standards.
According to Andy An, Zeekr has successfully delivered over 87,800 units within its initial six-month period; notably, the Zeekr 009 has emerged as the best-selling multi-purpose vehicle, having garnered a substantial revenue of more than 500,000 yuan (approximately $68,800 USD). In just a week since its pre-sale began, the innovative Zeekr 009 has garnered an impressive 3,000+ orders from international markets beyond mainland China. According to Andy An, a notable percentage – approximately 75% – of Zeekr 009 buyers comprise influential professionals, including CEOs, executives, and prominent public figures. Among those in attendance was renowned Hong Kong personality Aaron Kwok, who also joined the event.
Since its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange on May 10, 2024, Zeekr has experienced rapid growth, expanding to more than 25 markets and targeting 50 by year-end.
