Clean Dirt Bikes – Trevor DTRe Stella

A common complaint from e-bike riders is the silence of electric motor operation, a characteristic that can leave them feeling disconnected from the typical sensations associated with cycling. While we share a passion for the distinct sound of an aftermarket exhaust system, some regions impose noise restrictions that limit the volume of loud pipes. In Belgium, for instance, the noise restrictions are notoriously stringent, effectively preventing even the slightest attempt to launch a flat monitor racing event. The issue remains unresolved to this day.

As the electric dirt bike phenomenon takes hold, the possibility of a thrilling flat track racing series in Belgium becomes increasingly realistic. Despite the benefits of silent off-road bikes extending well beyond Belgium’s borders. Many rural areas restrict the use of off-road bikes due to concerns about excessive noise, which can also attract unwanted attention?

Following the triumph of their electric sports motorcycle, the Sarolea N60 MM.01, founders Philippe Stella and Jeroen-Vincent Nagels have further diversified their EV offerings. Across the pair have ventured away from conventional routes to pioneer a novel electric bicycle brand under the moniker Trevor Bikes, redefining the boundaries of sustainable transportation.

With a focus on the province of Girona in Catalonia, Spain, the couple devotes their leisure hours to navigating the region’s extensive network of off-road routes and scenic coastal pathways. Seeking a modern twist on traditional dirt bikes, Trevor Bikes designed the DTRe Stella.

Trevor Bikes partnered with renowned California-based automotive designer John McInnis to craft the design for the DTRe Stella. Given his prior experience working with EV company Alta Motors and a shared passion for dirt bikes, McInnis was uniquely qualified for the position.

The initial design intent was to craft a modern electric dirt bike with understated flat-tracker aesthetics. The design’s simplicity and practicality stem from the incorporation of high-efficiency components and a clever battery layout. Without the need for carrying any fuel, the monocoque bodywork essentially amounts to a lightweight canopy perched atop the trellis-style chassis. In line with the corporation’s commitment to minimizing its ecological impact, the Stella model features a bodywork and battery casing crafted entirely from 100% recyclable ABS plastic, aligning seamlessly with the company’s small carbon footprint strategy.

The Trevor Bikes DTRe Stella comes in two distinct versions. Clients can opt for either a dedicated off-road model or a production-ready road car version. Each bike is equipped with an 11 kW brushless electric motor coupled to a Sarolea Efficient Technology 2.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The setup offers riders a thrilling velocity of 90 km/h (55 mph), alongside 260 Nm of powerful pulling force on the rear wheel, and approximately 1.5 hours of ride time per 1.3-hour charge with a 3 kW charger. Stella’s sleek design allows her to tip the scales at a mere 79 kilograms (174 pounds), inclusive of her power source; this minimal weight enables effortless handling, even when navigating tight turns or clearing obstacles with ease.

The trellis frame and alloy swingarm that underpin the bike’s battery pack were expertly crafted by Belgian specialists Workhorse Velocity Store. The suspension system relies on high-quality components from Ohlins, with independent entries and exits at both front and rear axles, while power delivery is handled by a robust single-speed chain-driven transmission. Perched atop the triple clamp are Domino Racing’s Ergal 7075 black alloy handlebars, while the brakes come courtesy of Beringer. Wrapped around a sturdy base of 19-inch HAAN Excel spoked rims, every DTRe Stella cruises effortlessly on Dunlop’s specially designed flat-track monitor tyres, the DT3.

While designing an electric filth bike inspired by flat track racing is one aspect, making it a successful competitor is another? To benchmark their creation’s performance, Trevor Bikes collaborated with renowned off-road cyclist Gilles Leenknegt. “After six days of rigorous testing, I, a self-proclaimed classic bike aficionado with an affinity for flat-screen monitors, expressed my thoughts on the DTRe Stella: ‘I’m thoroughly impressed’?” The Stella’s seamless handling of the facility was remarkable, accompanied by an eerie silence and absence of vibrations, which collectively created a truly novel experience.

The Trevor Bikes DTRe Stella, an electric dirt bike, is now available for ordering in both off-road and street-legal configurations. Prices are established at €12,995 for the off-road edition and €14,495 for the road-oriented variant.
