Choosing between control or power, new 40 mph Apollo Phantom e-scooter opts for both

In its inaugural year, Apollo’s innovative Phantom e-scooter debuted as the company’s maiden all-proprietary design venture. The introduction of e-scooters marked the beginning of a new era in personal transportation, evolving from a collection of off-the-shelf parts to a custom-designed commuting vehicle. The corporation introduces the Apollo Phantom 2023, a potent dual-motor electric scooter boasting impressive acceleration while prioritizing control and comfort.

The all-new Apollo Phantom 2023 electrical scooter boasts significant upgrades in its design.

The novel scooter’s crowning achievement lies in its emphasis on controllability, rather than merely focusing on increased power and battery capacity, a common trend in the electric scooter industry.

Having encountered members of the Apollo group last year, I can attest to their unwavering commitment to designing from scratch electric scooters that go beyond mere power delivery, but rather genuinely elevate the riding experience itself?

Proof of a company’s innovative prowess is its proprietary Mach 1 digital velocity controller, developed in its Montreal, Canada facility.

As Apollo defined:

The newly enhanced Mach1 controller, capable of delivering up to 25 amps of power to each motor, enables significant boosts in both initial speed and acceleration capabilities. The 52V system, when combined with the MACH1 controller’s effectiveness and efficiency, enables a top speed of 41 mph (66 km/h), previously only achievable through the 60V model. With this setup, we’re able to offer a scooter that matches the Phantom 60V’s performance, but with linked options at a more affordable price point than its predecessor. The next-generation MACH1 controller is a proud creation of Montreal-based Apollo’s innovative team, offering a one-of-a-kind solution exclusive to the company.

To achieve its top speed of 41 mph (66 km/h), riders must activate the “Ludo Mode,” which unlocks 1,200 watts of power from each of the scooter’s two motors.

Alongside the brand-new controller, the interface and contact factors are given a comprehensive makeover.

Having a larger throttle paddle simplifies operating the scooter, especially when wearing sports gloves.

The Apollo Phantom 2023 features a sophisticated regenerative braking system that harmoniously complements its mechanical disc brakes at both the front and rear, while also efficiently recapturing energy and recharging the battery. Riders activate the regenerative braking system via a secondary throttle located on the left handlebar, allowing for intuitive control over the level of regeneration required. I evaluated the identical configuration on the corporation’s smaller Apollo Metropolis, revealing a more effective approach to implementing regenerative braking, which nearly eliminated the need for traditional mechanical brakes.

The display can now feature a larger, more prominent visual representation of the scooter’s vital information. The redesigned display effectively minimizes glare by placing the screen panel closer to the protective cowling.

The Apollo Phantom 2023 further enhances the company’s expanding portfolio of intelligent scooters, seamlessly integrating with its smartphone app to offer users access to advanced features such as GPS navigation directly on the handlebars.

The exterior LED lighting features prominently at both the front and rear, with a notable upgrade to the front’s flip indicators for enhanced visual appeal.

The quadruple spring suspension and 10-inch tires elevate the ride significantly on challenging roads.

While the Apollo Phantom 2023 boasts impressive speed and power, its true strength lies in its refined control and advanced features that elevate its performance capabilities to rival larger scooters.

With its advanced all-wheel-drive system propelling vehicles at velocities exceeding 40 mph, the vehicle’s prominent 52V, 23.4Ah battery boasts a substantial capacity of 1,788 watt-hours. The vehicle is capable of covering a range of approximately 40 miles (64 km) with its current battery power, assuming moderate use and average speeds rather than frequent high-speed driving.

The 77-pound scooter is hardly gentle, yet it’s built robust enough to support riders up to 300 pounds.

The e-scooter is now available for purchase, with a price tag of $2,299 in the United States and $2,699 in Canada, respectively.
