MAG celebrates its 25th anniversary this year?th anniversary. Now owned by SAIC, the iconic MG brand debuted its futuristic MG Cyber GT concept at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The long-speculated notion that the MG Cyberster would take on a hardtop form has finally been substantiated, with confirmation now in place for this variant.

The MG Cyber GT S is a sleek, two-door coupe that inherits its striking design cues from the MG Cyberster, boasting a nearly identical exterior appearance upon first glance. The Cyberster-inspired exterior boasts a symmetrical arrangement of sleek headlights and prominent air intake vents, strategically positioned to enhance aerodynamics and facilitate efficient heat dissipation. At the rear, a meshed grille adds a touch of visual flair to the overall design.

Reports suggest that Chinese language media have likened the car’s design to that of a Porsche 911, noting similarities in its sleek profile and prominent rear wheel arches. The design’s aerodynamic flair may raise questions about its practicality due to the sharply angled rear roofline, reminiscent of a classic “ducktail” style, which could potentially limit its usability. Indeed, the Cyber GT’s sleek design gives it a noticeably more aerodynamic appearance compared to the open-top Cyberster. The already sporty appearance of these wheels is elevated further by the striking presence of purple brake calipers, while the vehicle’s overall physique is amplified by the thick haunches inherited from the Cyberster, resulting in a powerfully imposing silhouette.

The haunches are accentuated by the sloping roofline and ducktail, seamlessly integrated into the design, giving them an added visual depth compared to the convertible variant. The rear options combine harmoniously with the distinctive tail lights of the Cyberster, accompanied by a sporty diffuser underneath.

While MG hints at this vehicle as a concept, its conventional side-view mirrors rather than cameras suggest it’s likely headed for production, perhaps sooner rather than later. Should Autohome forecast a launch for the MG CyberGTS in 2024 to capitalize on the anniversary, utilizing the year’s launch would amplify its marketing impact.

It’s difficult to determine from the images thus far whether the doors are conventional or scissor-type. Autohome asserts that the Cyber GTS will feature scissor doors, albeit only in top-of-the-line trim levels.

Given that the MG Cyber GT S is a high-performance variant of the MG Cyberster, it is reasonable to assume that the powertrain will share many similarities, if not identical components, with its base model. The MG Cyberstar, available in both single-motor and dual-motor configurations, has been unveiled. One motor option features a choice between a 231 kW and 250 kW motor at the rear axle, both capable of delivering peak torque of 475 Nm. The twin-motor variant maintains the 250 kW motor at the rear axle, while adding an additional 150 kW motor to the front axle, boasting dual 250 Nm torques. The acceleration time for the single-motor variants clocks in at a swift 4.9 seconds, whereas the dual-motor models shave off an impressive 1.7 seconds to reach their top speed in just 3.2 seconds.

The base trim of the Cyberster, boasting a solitary electric motor generating 231 kW power, will be equipped with a more compact 64 kWh battery capacity, distinguishing it from its higher-end variants that utilize a standard 77 kWh battery pack. The single-motor variant boasts impressive ranges, with estimates spanning 501 to 580 kilometers, contingent upon the size of the battery pack used. Meanwhile, the dual-motor variant boasts a remarkable CLTC range of up to 520 kilometres.

Although the MG Cyberster draws inspiration from its iconic two-door convertible predecessors, this modern iteration is hardly compact, boasting dimensions of 4,535mm in length, 1,913mm in width, and 1,329mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,690mm.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place from July 11 to July 14, commencing on a Wednesday and concluding on the following Sunday. The Goodwood Festival of Speed is renowned as the world’s largest and most prestigious motoring garden party, held annually at Goodwood House in West Sussex, United Kingdom. Since its inception in 1993, the event has evolved into a highly anticipated platform for premium and high-efficiency automotive manufacturers to introduce their latest offerings.

Up-to-date: This text accurately replicates the detailed launch specifications of the Cyber GTS. The article’s initial hypothesis posited that the automobile in question was a rugged prototype of the Cyberster, which has since been confirmed as correct.
