NIU launches new lighter, stronger carbon fiber electric scooters

Beijing-based NIU Energy, a prominent player in the electric scooter sector, has recently unveiled a new lineup of innovative e-scooters. Unlike their signature moped-style rides, these are innovative stand-up scooters designed to revolutionize personal transportation. Here are the improved texts:

Meet the NIU KQi Air: A Foldable Electric Bike for Your Urban Adventures.

Meet the NIU KQi Air and KQi Air X: Two Innovative Foldable E-Bikes for Urban Explorers

Weighing in at a mere 25.8 pounds (11.7 kilograms), the KQi Air X boasts a lightweight construction courtesy of its carbon fiber body. For a journey that could potentially reach speeds of 20 miles per hour (32 kilometers per hour), that’s relatively impressive.

For many individuals, this represents a minimum standard of success, let alone something truly spectacular. In Europe, you’ll typically encounter a speed limit of 25km/h on urban roads, ensuring a safe and controlled environment for pedestrians and vehicles alike. For those in Germany, the recent introduction of a 20 km/h speed limit in certain areas has been met with widespread disappointment. The reduced speed threshold, equivalent to approximately 12 mph, has sparked controversy and debate among locals and visitors alike. Enjoyably, you’ll be able to relish the extended range at its fullest potential.

The scooters boast a variable range of approximately 28 to 31 miles (45 to 50 km), depending on the specific spec sheet or website consulted. The performance boost is largely due to the 451 Wh LG battery, but it’s crucial to note that this enhanced range only materializes when cruising at slower speeds. It seems that in Germany, one’s travel plans are often determined by the notion of distance rather than time, with the phrase “fernweh” describing the yearning to explore and venture afar.

The KQi Air and KQi Air X e-bikes are equipped with a robust 350W motor that can deliver up to 700W of peak energy, enabling them to tackle inclines of up to 20% grade. Equipped with 9.5×2.3-inch tires, the vehicle features distinctive front disc brakes and rear regenerative braking, a unique half-twist throttle, and advanced LED lighting at both the front and rear. The entrance headlight boasts a striking NIU signature halo design, while integrated flip signals adorn the handlebar tips.

The scooter’s characteristic “five-hour quick charging,” which seemingly defies logic and raises a skeptical eyebrow.

Let’s go on an adventure! Are you up for a trip?

Sorry, gentlemen, but I won’t be able to accommodate your request for a few hours, as I need to complete the charge on my vehicle first.

There’s no inherent issue with a device featuring a 5-hour recharge time. It’s generally accepted that people usually spend just one day to account for their expenses. Let’s not play quick and easy with phrases like “quick” or “free”, while we’re at it?

The NIU app seamlessly integrates with a range of mobility solutions, including standing scooters, seated scooters, bicycles, and e-bikes, offering features such as NFC-enabled unlocking, personalized ride statistics, seamless Bluetooth connectivity, and automatic over-the-air software updates. I utilize the NIU app seamlessly to power my personal electric scooter, opting for the seated mode for optimal comfort; I appreciate its sleek design and smooth functionality, free from unnecessary frills.

Here is the rewritten text:

The main difference between the two new scooters lies in their weight, with the non-X model weighing 0.4 kilos (180 grams) more than its counterpart. Additionally, it features a distinctive pink or white and black colour scheme, setting it apart from the other design. With its slightly lighter construction courtesy of a fully carbon fibre body, the KQi Air X gains an edge over its predecessors with mixed materials. The coveted gold-on-black colour scheme adds to its sleek aesthetic appeal.

There’s also a notable distinction to consider. While the KQi Air boasts a competitive price tag of USD 1,399, its more advanced counterpart, the KQi Air X, comes with a slightly higher sticker price of USD 1,799. When pre-orders open on September 19, a speculated early-bird promotion may bring the price down to a discounted $949, effectively lowering its value.

Electrek’s Take

Oh. My. God. A half-twist throttle! While there’s much to appreciate, one feature truly stands out as exceptional in this entire scooter. While various types of throttles exist for scooters, only one stands out as the most suitable option: the half-twist design.

While half-twist throttles may have their advantages, they aren’t inherently superior to other types of throttle designs. With these grips, you can maintain secure control of all five fingers wrapped around the handlebar, unaffected by challenging terrain that might cause your thumb to jolt up and down on a thumb throttle. They also offer unparalleled handling (twisting the hand is a far more precise motor skill than simply wagging a thumb). Unlike full-twist throttles, these designs eliminate the risk of accidentally engaging the throttle by snagging on an obstacle, thereby minimizing the potential for unwanted activation. Here is the improved/revised text:

“This is a hill where I’m resolute in my stance – willing to take a stand even if it means risking everything. The fact that this motorcycle features a half-twisted throttle only reinforces my conviction.”

The sight of the remaining scooter’s components is truly astonishing to me. I appreciate the lightweight design, and anyone familiar with carrying their scooter up more than a couple of stairs will definitely understand.

One potential drawback is the value proposition. While NIU’s app connectivity is indeed impressive, I do have concerns about the significant expenses involved. Once you’ve settled in and aren’t worrying about the initial challenges of adjusting to a new environment, you may find that you genuinely appreciate the Northern Illinois University (NIU) community.
