While Europe offers a wide range of high-speed seated electric scooters, the US market lacks an abundance of options in this category. As new fashion trends gradually trickle into the North American market, however? The latest model to hit American streets is the CSC ES5 electric scooter, which has begun shipping to reserved customers and is now available for purchase.

The commuter scooter, first unveiled earlier this summer, has now commenced national rollouts from its California-based manufacturer, CSC.

This compact electric runabout boasts a cutting-edge design, offering a sleek and modern alternative for those looking to transition from an e-bike but are not yet ready to commit to a full-sized electric bike, reaching speeds of up to 53 mph (85 km/h).

At a speed of 53 mph, the scooter lane distinguishes itself by accommodating both lighter and heavier duty electric two-wheeled vehicles. With its classic step-through scooter configuration, riders can enjoy a more upright posture and commanding view of the road, making it an ideal choice for utility and commuting purposes, especially among those seeking a more leisurely riding experience.

The peppy electric scooter features a robust 5 kilowatt continuous-rated and 8 kilowatt peak-rated belt-driven central motor.

Additionally, this product includes a trio of high-capacity 60V, 31Ah lithium-ion batteries, providing reliable power storage for your electric vehicle. Combined, the e-mtb’s riders gain access to 5.58 kilowatt-hours of power, though distributed across batteries designed to fit neatly within the frame for convenient in-frame charging when a separate storage option is not readily available. As the demand for portable energy solutions grows, detachable batteries have become increasingly popular among residents and commuters who require reliable power sources outside of traditional street-level charging stations.

CSC reports that the scooters cruise steadily at approximately 31 mph (50 km/h), covering around 68 miles (110 km). While CSC often provides theoretical efficiency metrics that may fall short of actual performance levels experienced by cyclists in everyday scenarios. A refreshing break from the usual fixation on vacuous specs boasting arbitrary weight classes and absurd attire, where numbers are manipulated to mean little in real-world scenarios.

When riding your scooter at its 53 mph prime speed consistently, you’re unlikely to achieve the claimed 68-mile range. Despite the rarity of cities spanning 68 miles, you’ll probably feel confident about having enough range to last for several days of driving.

CSC currently offers the product at a discounted price of USD 4,995, which represents a markdown from its original Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of USD 5,295, excluding an additional USD 410 in vendor fees. Compared to the limited options available in the US, this represents a relatively attractive price point for an electric scooter. How dare you speak so carelessly?

The closest native scooter comparison is likely the NIU MQi Sport Pro Extended Range. For USD 6,199, you’re acquiring a top speed of 43 mph (70 km/h), a motor power of 3.1 kW, and a battery capacity of 4.03 kWh. For an additional 15% cost, the NIU promises a 20% slower pace, 28% reduced battery life, and a 38% decrease in overall energy. While NIU may have more extensive resources as a larger firm, it’s essential to note that CSC also boasts an impressive track record of support, with readily available spare parts stored in its vast inventory at all times.

While CSC may lack certain features found in some NIU models, such as GPS tracking, it still has a few tricks up its own sleeve that make it a compelling option. Riders can anticipate a range of features, including keyless start functionality, a vibrant full-colour touchscreen display, seamless Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free audio streaming, and an integrated sprint camera that captures every moment of their ride – whether it’s to preserve memories or comply with regulatory requirements.

With ample space for two riders, featuring adjustable pillion pegs and sturdy rear grab bars for added security.

Although I haven’t had the chance to ride a Mannequin yet, my experience with previous CSC electric bicycles and scooters has shown that their engineering is top-notch, giving me high expectations for this product as well.

I plan to get some immediate ES5 saddle time soon, and I’ll ensure that the experience is shared with you as soon as possible.

Until then, here’s what we think about the CSC ES5 electric scooter. Share your ideas within the remark part under!
