Following the successful launch of its flagship electrical scooter, the Gogoro JEGO Smartscooter, the company is gearing up to begin deliveries of this highly sought-after product. This launch introduces a fresh web page for Gogoro, the globe’s biggest battery-swapping community operator, making its swappable battery-powered electric scooters more affordable than ever before.
The Gogoro JEGO recently debuted in Taiwan, promptly securing more than 6,500 fully paid pre-orders within a remarkably short period.
Gogoro has long dominated Taiwan’s domestic market, boasting an impressive 90% share of recent electrical scooter registrations within the country. According to Gogoro’s data, JEGO gross sales have witnessed the most significant demand for a Gogoro automobile since the pandemic began. Taiwan, the company’s home market, remains its largest, but Gogoro has also successfully expanded its presence across many Asian countries through its scooter and battery-swapping station offerings.
With a starting price tag of just under $760, thanks to government incentives, the JEGO aims to make inroads in its local market by offering an affordable option that can capture the attention of more budget-conscious riders of traditional combustion-powered scooters.
The scooter was engineered around Gogoro’s established battery technology, enabling it to operate using either one or two battery packs in urban environments and concrete jungles. Riders acquire the scooter but do not own the batteries, opting instead for a subscription-based battery-swapping plan. The innovative battery management system on Gogoro’s scooters enables efficient scaling back of energy consumption, thereby maximizing the lifespan of the batteries by implementing smart charging and swapping protocols that optimize their potential. With the relaunch of their swapping services in 2015, Gogoro found that their batteries were exceeding initial projections, boasting an impressive new estimated lifespan of approximately 12 years.
A competitively priced battery-swapping subscription plan was launched alongside the JEGO, offering a US$7-per-month option that covers up to 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) of monthly usage for customers signing up for a three-year agreement.
As the JEGO successfully transitions combustion engine scooter riders to electric, its efforts seem to be yielding promising results.
By introducing JEGO to Taiwan’s cycling enthusiasts, we’ve struck a resonant note of positivity among a previously untapped demographic – nearly all of our 6,500 pre-orders come from first-time electric vehicle riders. According to Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro, customers seeking a practical, convenient, and eco-friendly vehicle will not merely adopt JEGO’s cutting-edge innovation and design, but also leverage access to Gogoro’s extensive battery-swapping network. “Preliminary JEGO gross sales reports exceed projections, showcasing an unprecedented surge in demand since the pandemic’s onset.” As deliveries begin this week, we expect to gauge the success of JEGO’s pre-order sales for the current quarter.
As Gogoro simultaneously broadens its entry-level offerings with the introduction of the JEGO, it is also poised to launch its recently unveiled premium-tier scooter, the Gogoro Pulse. This cutting-edge mannequin boasts an array of innovative features typically found in high-performance vehicles, now exclusively available in the electric scooter sector.
By employing a dual-strategy approach, Gogoro is able to innovate at both extremes of the market, catering effectively to entry-level riders and enthusiasts seeking enhanced performance.
