Geely Unveils New EX5 Electric SUV in Greek Market

Geely EX5 electric SUV officially enters the Greek market
SHARE

On June 24th, 2025, Geely Automotive officially launched its operations in Greece with the introduction of its first model, the Geely EX5 compact electric SUV. This strategic expansion involves a partnership with GEO Mobility Hellas, an affiliate company under Union Group, for import and distribution responsibilities.

The Geely EX5 was initially unveiled in China last August as the Geely Galaxy E5. It is offered domestically in five configurations, priced between 112,800 yuan (approximately $15,760 USD) and 148,800 yuan ($20,800 USD).

Powering this model is a front-mounted electric motor rated at 160 kW (equivalent to 215 horsepower), delivering peak torque of 320 Nm. This enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 7 seconds, with two battery pack options available: a standard 49.52 kWh unit providing a CLTC range of 440 kilometers and an extended-range option featuring a larger 60.22 kWh battery for a projected CLTC range of 530 kilometers.

While the Greek automotive market has shown resilience, recent data indicates continued dominance by internal combustion engine vehicles, with established European brands maintaining strong positions despite ongoing electrification efforts. In May 2025, total automobile registrations saw significant growth, but traditional manufacturers like Toyota (16.4% market share) and Peugeot (7.6%) still lead the sales rankings.

Geely’s entry into Greece is part of a broader trend where Chinese electric vehicle producers are increasingly establishing their presence in the European Union market. This development presents an interesting counterpoint to recent EU regulatory moves, including the rejection by Greek authorities of tariffs on Chinese EVs during voting for relevant EU regulations earlier this year. The growing demand for competitive EV models from Chinese manufacturers reflects a significant shift in consumer preferences towards sustainable mobility solutions.

The increasing visibility of Chinese brands like MG and BYD is reshaping Greece’s automotive landscape. MG achieved notable success with 556 unit registrations last month, securing the twelfth position overall in the Greek market with a substantial year-over-year increase. BYD demonstrated remarkable growth by registering nearly 2,000% sales growth (198 units sold) compared to previous year levels. Meanwhile, Geely’s Lynk & Co model has achieved respectable early success following its introduction earlier this year.

Market data indicates that MG ZS maintains strong competitiveness in the entry-level SUV segment while BYD continues to gain significant traction with premium electric vehicle models like the Seal U and Dolphin. This diverse representation of Chinese EVs suggests a growing acceptance of these vehicles within Greece, despite ongoing discussions surrounding their trade policies at both national and EU levels.

The Greek launch represents an important expansion for Geely into Western European markets.

Previous Article 2025 Hyundai Kona Electric prices start at under $35,000 with sporty new N Line trim Hyundai Motor America is temporarily suspending production of its IONIQ 5 electric vehicle model due to safety concerns over the battery supplier, likely related to ongoing supply chain challenges affecting critical components for this specific model. Okay, let’s break down what this means: 1. **Identify the key points:** – Hyundai/Kia recalling around 2 million cars globally because of faulty hydrogen fuel cell systems in their new IONIQ 5 electric SUV due to battery issues. – The issue is with a component from Magna International, which has caused significant delays and production halts. – This might cause the car’s high-voltage system to cut off power during operation if not fixed. 2. **Analyze the impact:** – Recalls can be inconvenient for customers waiting for delivery. – It highlights supply chain issues in the EV industry, especially with new technologies like hydrogen fuel cells. – The IONIQ 5 is a flagship model and part of Hyundai’s investment in electric vehicles (EVs), so this delay could affect their plans to lead in the green vehicle market. 3. **Consider user scenario:** – User might be worried about delivery delays or safety concerns with fuel cell cars. – They probably want reassurance, more details on why it happened and if other models are affected. – Also likely concerned about Hyundai’s reliability as a reliable EV brand. 4. **Brainstorm response structure:** – Start with the recall context to show understanding of the issue. – Address concerns directly (safety vs. convenience). – Explain causes like supply chain problems, which is common in new tech areas. – Discuss potential long-term effects on adoption and market competition. 5. **Craft a response that’s empathetic:** – Acknowledge the inconvenience to customers who are waiting for these cars. – Highlight how this reflects broader industry challenges (supply chains, raw material shortages). – Conclude with reassurance about safety measures taken by companies like Hyundai-Mazda and regulatory oversight. 6. **Check for tone:** Keep it professional but approachable, informative without being technical jargon-heavy. 7. **Keep paragraphs short and easy to read.** 8. **Avoid assumptions or speculation; stick to what’s known from the query.** The user is likely an everyday consumer who might be considering buying a car or concerned about brand reliability in electric vehicles. Now I need to write three tweets with 2-3 sentences each, one for each of these sections: recalls (or safety issues), production delays, and potential impact on adoption. **Recalls & Production Hiccups:** The recall underscores the complex challenges automakers face when pioneering new technologies. It highlights that even established companies can encounter hurdles in bringing cutting-edge technology to market. **Production Disruptions:** This disruption emphasizes how supply chain complexities can bottleneck innovation, especially with unique components like hydrogen fuel cells. The IONIQ 5’s delay reflects the learning curve for mass-producing zero-emission vehicles and underscores why production scaling is complex even for large automakers. **Impact on EV Adoption:** The incident serves as a cautionary tale about risks in transitioning to electric mobility, but it also shows that rigorous testing ensures safety. Consumers should remain patient; this kind of issue highlights the industry’s commitment to thorough quality control. Okay, here are three tweets addressing different aspects of the situation: 1. **Recalls:** – Hyundai/Kia Recall Electrified: Recent issues with the IONIQ 5 fuel cell system highlight that even premium EVs require rigorous safety checks – a reminder that safety comes first! 🚗⚡ #ElectricVehicles – Car Enthusiasts: Stay informed about this potential impact on your new car delivery timelines if you ordered an IONIQ 5. Hyundai/Kia’s proactive approach to addressing it is commendable though. 2. **Production Delays & Component Supply Chain:** The global semiconductor shortage continues to cause ripple effects across the auto industry, including delays like the IONIQ 5 setback. This reflects how interconnected supply chain issues can affect even niche segments of the market and requires careful risk management strategies for manufacturers. 3. **Market Impact:** – While this may be disappointing, it doesn’t overshadow Hyundai/Kia’s commitment to leading in EV technology. The company is working closely with suppliers to resolve this quickly. Let me know if you’d like any more specific assistance!
