Huawei and JAC Motors officially unveiled their premium flagship sedan, the Maextro S800, on the Chinese market. Priced within the range of approximately $98,300 to $141,000, or 708,000 to 1,018,000 yuan. Spanning an impressive 5,480 millimeters in length, 2,000 millimeters in width, and 1,536 millimeters in height, with a substantial 3,370-millimeter wheelbase, this full-size luxurious sedan outstrips the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class in terms of measurement.

The S800 is built on the Turing II Longxing platform and offered in both pure electric and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configurations. Available are both 4-seat and 5-seat configurations for your convenience. The Pure Electric model features a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, whereas Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) can be equipped with either dual-motor or tri-motor all-wheel drive configurations.

Huawei’s Xue Xiao platform makes its debut in the S800, a pioneering range-extended electric vehicle featuring an innovative 800V architecture. The dual-motor extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) boasts a pure electric range of 400 kilometres and a combined city/highway/track cycle (CLTC) range of 1,333 kilometres, whereas its triple-motor counterpart offers an electric range of 365 kilometres and a mixed range of 1,200 kilometres. The pure electric model features a 97-kilowatt-hour battery that enables 5C ultra-fast charging, offering an impressive 702-kilometer range on the city-low-temperature-cycling test. The EREV’s 65-kilowatt-hour battery rapidly charges from 10% to 80% in just 12 or 10.5 minutes, a testament to its impressive energy storage capabilities.

The S800 boasts impressive acceleration figures: from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds for the EV dual-motor configuration, 4.7 seconds for the EREV tri-motor setup, and 4.9 seconds for the EREV dual-motor variant. The braking distance from 100 km/h is a significant 34.5 metres. With its innovative rear-wheel steering capable of articulating up to ±12 degrees, this vehicle is notable for its remarkably compact turning radius of just 5.05 metres, while also offering a maximum crab-walk angle of 16 degrees.

The automobile features Huawei’s latest ADS 4 intelligent driving system, boasting innovative “AI trains AI” capabilities. The advanced vehicle features a quartet of LiDAR sensors, supplemented by a diverse array of 32 sensors, collectively providing a comprehensive 360-degree awareness that enhances the driver’s experience in navigating challenging scenarios, including tight lane management, intelligent obstacle avoidance, and precise parking.

Security is a standout focus.

The S800 leverages Huawei’s cutting-edge Xuanwu security architecture, boasting a robust 10-horizontal and 9-vertical physique configuration, along with 2000 MPa integrated door rings and an impressive 53,300 N·m/deg torsional stiffness. More than 92% of the physical structure consists of ultra-high-strength metal and aluminum, boasting an impressive 24% of hot-formed metal that exceeds a tensile strength of 1500 megapascals. The vehicle was engineered to meet the stringent safety standards of a five-star rating from C-NCAP, as well as the advanced security criteria set by C-IASI for 3G+.

Battery safety features a comprehensive design, incorporating five-layer underbody shielding and advanced thermal runaway containment technology. Chinese tech giant Huawei and leading battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) have jointly announced that their newly designed batteries meet and exceed China’s most stringent security standards, as outlined in its latest regulations.

“The new vehicle also introduces the innovative Tulindragon platform, featuring a cutting-edge ‘spatiotemporal inference suspension’ technology that proactively adjusts to anticipate and mitigate road imperfections, ensuring a smoother ride.” The vehicle features a dual-wishbone front suspension and a five-link rear suspension system, both incorporating adaptive air dampening technology for enhanced ride quality and handling.

Inside craftsmanship emphasises bespoke luxurious. The cabin boasts intricately hand-polished crystal components, steel elements fabricated with meticulous 1-millimeter precision at a scorching 1,300 degrees Celsius, as well as rich, supple full-grain semi-aniline leather featuring exquisite stitching. The wooden trim is subjected to an extremely thorough grain-matching process, with a staggering 99% rejection rate, followed by a lengthy 480-hour glossing program.

The trunk space measures a generous 445 litres and features luxurious high-pile velvet lining, elevating the overall ambiance of this vehicle.

Five distinctive interior color palettes are available, including Daybreak Brown, Glow White-Purple, Misty White, Nightfall White-Brown, and Nighttime Ink Brown.

The S800 boasts exceptional audio capabilities, introducing the “HUAWEI Yuezhang Extraordinary” sound system, which rivals the opulence of the Concord Clever Mobility series in its high-end luxury. The system boasts 43 audio options, 7.5-inch subwoofers with 10 impartial channels, and a peak energy output of 2,920 watts.

The key highlights of this premium audio system include four headrest speakers per seat, access to ten satellite TV channels, advanced sound staging algorithms that adapt to your listening preferences, and a cutting-edge 45-degree retractable tweeter capable of producing deep, rumbling bass notes with frequencies below 40Hz.

The Mate X2 also options Huawei’s “StarFlux” digital automotive key system, marking its debut alongside the forthcoming Huawei Watch 6. The distinguishing feature of this technology lies in its ability to accurately identify clients from a distance of 20 metres, unlocking at a proximity of just three metres, while maintaining precise performance even during vehicle-side activities such as luggage handling. According to Huawei, their innovative solution provides a remarkable increase in positioning accuracy, boasting a staggering sixfold improvement over standard methods, while also delivering a dependable six times greater unlocking reliability compared to traditional approaches.

The Maextro S800 sets a new standard for luxury electric sedans in China’s premium EV market with its high-performance architecture, robust security features, exceptional intelligent driving capabilities, and meticulously designed interior. The initial shipment of 599 vehicles under the “Pioneer Program” is scheduled to commence deliveries on June 26, with widespread availability set to begin in mid-August.
