Can we odor a three-peat? Ford’s efficiency team is gearing up to compete once again at the prestigious Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, with an electrifying twist – they’re bringing a “Super” version of their all-electric Mustang Mach-E this year?
Since 1916, Pikes Peak has hosted the iconic “Race to the Clouds,” a grueling 12.42-mile ascent to an elevation of over 14,000 feet within the majestic mountains above Colorado. While its origins are tied to traditional cars, the hill climb has evolved into a coveted platform for electric vehicle engineers to demonstrate the superior performance of their all-electric designs.
Last year, Rivian, Hyundai, and Ford Performance all made a splash, with the first two manufacturers taking home awards for their respective vehicle categories, while Ford’s “F-150 Supertruck” dominated the competition, claiming the coveted “King of the Mountain” title for the fastest climb of the day.
In January, Ford announced plans to defend its top spot at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with its latest all-electric prototype, marking the company’s third such entry in just a few years. As we observed the scene at the time, a distinctive vehicle caught our attention: a car shrouded in a sleek covering that appeared relatively low-slung, with an impressive rear spoiler protruding from its back end. The radiant front emblem, unmistakably emblazoned with the iconic Mustang Mach-E logo, left no doubt about the vehicle’s true identity.
Ford has unveiled its battery-electric vehicle (BEV) designed to conquer Pikes Peak, dubbed the Incredible Mustang Mach-E. Have a gander.
