GM Wuling Starlight EV: it really SHOULD be the new electric Chevy Impala
SHARE

If our analysis of Tesla options has revealed anything, it’s the glaring absence of mainstream electric sedans in North America. It’s not necessary to present things in this manner. General Motors currently offers a five-passenger electric sedan for sale, potentially introducing a new electric Chevrolet Impala to the market.

The all-new 2025 Wuling Starlight EV is poised to make a splash in China with its impressive range of over 315 miles (CLTC), equivalent to approximately 255 miles on the EPA cycle, and features a spacious wheelbase measuring 2,800 mm – just half an inch shy of the 2007 Impala’s dimensions, with a width that adds up to 1.5 inches more, providing ample room for four-to-five American adults inside its cabin.

This rendering by ChatGPT, depicting the Wuling Starlight EV in metallic black with Chevy branding, suggests that it won’t appear significantly distinct from what one would expect a modern electric Impala to look like, either.

What if we reimagine the iconic Chevy Impala as an electric vehicle?

The report reveals that the revamped Wuling Starlight EV, the second iteration of the brand’s electric vehicle series, serves as an opportunity for Wuling to revamp key aspects of the car and harmonize its image with the company’s rebranded identity. With an updated exterior design, base models are now equipped with standard 17-inch multi-spoke black alloy wheels, while the available color palette has been condensed to a trio of popular options: sleek Curtain Black, vibrant Shining Gold, and pure Shining White.

Within the Starlight EV, the cutting-edge Wuling steering wheel takes center stage before a reimagined dashboard featuring enhanced, premium-grade soft-touch materials, revamped front door panels, a meticulously crafted central console, and the latest iteration of General Motors’ Chinese-language Ling OS operating system.

The updates will initially roll out on the Starlight EV before being available for the plug-in hybrid/EREV variant, enabling an estimated range of 1,100 km (approximately 685 miles) from a single tank refill and reduced operating costs. It seems that hybrid cars are gaining popularity, and the next step might be their introduction in the US market. The company’s growth strategy for 2023 should prioritize diversifying our revenue streams through strategic partnerships and investments in emerging technologies?
